Ember Trees
Ember trees1 are coniferous plants adapted to life on the Dakrúzú Peninsula in southern Dragonía, where the frequent volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and the ever-present influence of the element of Fire make it difficult for most flora to thrive outside a few select valleys.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The trees are instantly recognizable for their needle-like leaves, which glow and emit smoke as if they were burning, and the sleek, black bark. The smoldering appearance of the leaves is the result of filtering out excess element of Fire, which the trees otherwise rely on for survival.
The sap which the trees produce to deter harmful fungi and insects is grey and warm to the touch.

Uses, Products & Exploitation
The Traks who inhabit the peninsula have long used the bark, leaves, roots and sap to make all kinds of medicine as well as mixtures used by mages to complete their training, and trade these materials for various goods from the Znagrúk Empire and other countries north of the peninsula.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Ember trees are currently endemic to the Dakrúzú Peninsula, though their range tends to fluctuate over time depending on which element is dominant in Dragonía at the time. The trees are generally most widespread when the element of Fire is the most influential, during which they can be found throughout the southern Múlíat Mountains and the Tærp Mountains, as well as most of the islands of the Derkniss Sea, east of the peninsula.
When the element of Darkness is dominant, however, the ember trees are restricted to the southernmost Dakrúzú Peninsula, and have often been critically endangered during those times.
