Dúgrabs

Dúgrabs1 are the main predators found in the vast network of caves beneath the Vúrakesen Mountains in western Dragonía. They are distantly related to flying squirrels found in southwestern Ela'k Forest north of the mountains. The Jaarels who inhabit the caves fear dúgrabs greatly, and travelers often use Lightstones affixed to rods to look for any of the creatures up in the cave ceilings.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dúgrabs have stocky bodies, with little distinction between the head and abdomen, long limbs with five, strong claws each and a membrane stretched between them, the neck and the tail. The membrane, like the rest of the body (safe for long whiskers) is hairless and relatively thick, and is not meant for gliding, but rather to envelop prey to prevent it from escaping. The mouth is relatively large, located on the underside and equipped with a set of long, sharp teeth.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dúgrabs are slow on the ground, merely able to crawl around similarly to our world's sloths, and thus prefer to cling to the ceilings of caves and drop down on their prey. When that happens, the dúgrab holds fast to it while viciously biting the prey until it dies from blood loss.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Dúgrabs are completely blind, and instead rely on keen sense of hearing, smell and by detecting vibrations through the rock walls.
