Aned'ber Flowers

Aned'ber flowers1 are perennial plants native to southern Ela'k Forest and Jarrak Forest in western Dragonía, and the Útels grow them in other parts of Ela'k Forest as well.

Additional Information

Domestication

Aned'ber flowers were harvested for their bulbs by the Alalaríans, ancestors of the Útels, while the latter began growing the flowers early in their history.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Religious
The flowers are used extensively as offerings to the dead, and pious Útels make sure to always have a vase with aned'ber flowers in their ancestral shrine. The bulbs are also vital in their funerary rites, where dried bulbs are crushed, mixed with almond milk and baked into tiny loaves, which are then inserted into the mouth of the dead prior to being cremated.
Culinary
While the bulbs were used in Alalarían and early Útel cuisine, they are now viewed exclusively as food for the dead. Consuming them is such a taboo that anyone caught doing so is faced with immediate exile, and being accused of doing so is one of the gravest insults in Útel society.
