Cerelea’s College of Forbidden Knowledge

The Lady of the Shifting Sands seeks power in the form of arcane secrets, commanding her faithful to build her knowledge base for her. She covets repositories of learning, first and foremost being the Sand of Time. Still she dares not cross the Chroniclers outright, and so must build her own libraries and laboratories in parallel to her father, Primus. The blue dragon’s few remaining darkborn children serve as her primary lieutenants and priests. They catalog and maintain her collections, dutifully bringing important findings before her personally in hopes of garnering favor and blessings. She believes this form of competitive research furthers innovation and discovery, though other scholars argue it promotes secret keeping and actually hinders progress. Less scrupulous or desperate members of the other races similarly bring her their secrets in exchange for her gifts. She requires they pay lip service to her godhood, praising and pledging to serve only her. Often she enters into contracts, and has built an expansive spy network of cultists outside of her own lands over the years. Almost a completely separate entity from this dubious “college” is the worship she receives from her goblinkin minions. Generally much less academically inclined, the tribes still seek her favor and attention in whatever ways they can get them. They regularly raid trade caravans, pilgrims, and into elvish territory looking for artefacts, scholars, and texts, which they simply call “papers.” They then excitedly bring their treasures to the Blue Lady’s darkborn in hopes of earning an audience. This type of hoard building may be less intentional than her other devotees, but it is no less genuine a form of worship, and is surprisingly effective.
