Bountiful Valley
Overview
Bountiful Valley is a large valley in the mountains south east of Settled Dosjorya, between the Habinin River and Ring Lakes. The valley is a legacy of the early Gendirlo, specifically the Coloktialo, who chose this area as a place to cultivate food for themselves and their allies. Even in modern times, Bountiful Valley is home to a vast collection of fruits, vegetables, and herbs that would otherwise not grow in the mountains without the care given to them by the Coloktialo. As with many unusual phenomena in Dosjorya, it is thought that the conditions within Bountiful Valley may be a result, either directly or indirectly, of the actions of the gods. Some Gendirlo believe the power of the gods continues to make the valley a perfect place for vegetation to grow.Characteristics
The soil found within Bountiful Valley is rich with nutrients and the slopes are gradual, perfect for cultivation. Early Coloktialo hesitantly roamed beyond their mountain home in search for other food sources, for they were at a disadvantage compared to other mountain Gendirlo when it came to hunting and scavenging. Despite the elevation of Bountiful Valley and its distance from the heavy rains brought by the rain shadow effect of the mountains, the Coloktialo found that these forest crops grew well along side the mountain crops they had begin to grow there. The east side of the valley is full of fruit trees, as the ascending air against the valley wall wrings out more moisture. The west side is full of all sorts of grains, herbs, and vegetables interspersed with natural vegetation. The bottom is full of bushes and grasses where small prey species may live. Winged Gendirlo describe the valley as a stroke of green against a rocky, dismal backdrop. As part of ancient alliances and the Gendirl Sacred Pact, the Coloktialo allow all Gendirlo to enter the valley and take what they wish, even as Innena, though they encourage all those who use this resource take time to add or improve it in some way, either by planting seeds from the food they eat, by pulling weeds, or by removing rocks that fall from the nearby mountains.Origins
Before the Coloktialo used Bountiful Valley for farming, other Gendirlo beheld the area as a wonder full of potential. Kundego and Nackadongo frequented the area while flying to their destinations as the valley was sheltered from the elements and was full of natural vegetation that harbored edibles and small prey. In the winter, snow stays above the crops, luring in even more prey animals and serving as a prime hunting spot. Long before the evolution the the Coloktialo, Bountiful Valley could have been a coveted spot fought over by the various Gendirl species, though rarely were there any disagreements or fights over it. This lack of aggression allowed the Coloktialo to discover and alter the valley into the food bounty that it continues to be, as the Coloktialo are a pacifist species that cannot and will not fight others if other solutions can be found.
