The Battle Of Coppervein Mountain was a hateful battle started over the mining rights and resources of the Coppervein Mountain located on the border between the Jade Dynasty and the Gurun Dwarves.
The Conflict
Prelude
Tensions have always been high between the Jade Dynasty and all other outsiders, but they have been particularly strained when it comes to other races. When it comes to the Gurun Dwarves, they particularly hate them. In the dry environment in which they all live, they have often found their rivers diverted to flow into underground caverns leading to the dwarves and have found many empty mines devoid of mineral resources in the borderlands between them. The lack of water and resources has put a great strain on the Jade Dynasty to support its people and bring justice for them.
The Gurun Dwarves have always seen the Jade Dynasty humans as greedy, wasteful, weak, and enthralled to evil magics. They view the surface world as an insignificant place for the other races to live and toil through and view everything under the surface as theirs to explore and exploit.
Battle
This battle began when both the
Jade Dynasty miners and
Gurun Dwarven miners began tunneling into the same mountain in search of the precious copper veins inside. Unbeknown to either was that they were on a collision course tunneling directly towards one another. When the picks finally broke through the rock separating them, both groups were surprised and immediately accused the other of claim jumping and trying to steal the others rightful copper. The dwarves claimed that the mountain was theirs because they had tunneled farther into it, and the humans claimed that it was theirs because they had excavated more total rock. Fighting soon broke out and survivors of both groups reported back to their leaders, who then sent in troops to take over the mountain. The dwarves sent in their expert tunnel fighters, crossbowmen, and trap masters, while the humans sent in their slave infantry and sorcerers. Battles, blood, and spells, resounded around the mountain for days before it finally collapsed in upon itself, killing everyone inside and sealing off what remained of the copper ore. Both sides estimated that the little remaining copper would not be worth the retunneling costs and abandoned the mountain forever. Each side blamed the other and continued to foster their hatred.
Both sides lost hundreds of souls during the battle and neither was able to claim the mountain as their own. Both the Jade Dynasty humans and the Gurun Dwarven people held great hatred and vehemence towards one another, but issues in their homelands prevented either from reengaging and fighting the other for quite some time.
Both the humans and dwarven people continue to hate each other to this very day. The Jade Dynasty humans despise all dwarves as greedy murderers that should be killed on sight and do so whenever the opportunity presents itself. The Gurun Dwarves however, understand that humans are very different from each other but have a lot of similarities. The dwarves greatly distrust all humans as a group, but readily give individuals the chance to show what they are made out of, usually through, challenges, jests, and monetary contests. The dwarves still view the people of the Jade Dynasty as evil, magic loving, thieves, brigands, and murderers, and actively make defensive plans against them.
