Novus Tiro

Novus Tiro is considered by most ancient scholars to be one of the first, if not the very first, human settlement created after the end of the planets subjugation by the Goliaths.  Originally name Vustiro for the Vustir people, its name was changed after its destruction and reconstruction following the terrible Dragostation  Novus Tiro today is an enormous and very complex city of multiple races, cultures, religions, and ideas.  It seems that almost anything can be bought or sold here if one knows where to look.  Despite the political scheming and power grabs, the people here are generally happy, feel free, and are safe and secure.

Government

The government is run and all decisions are made by the ruling council of Novus Tiro.

Industry & Trade

As such a large and well established city, it has a tremendous import and exporting system of almost every variety of good and service imaginable.

Infrastructure

After 6,000 years and several reconstruction efforts, the city has virtually every social, economic, military, education, recreation, administrative, and religious organization, institute, building, or establishment that can be imagined.  Cobblestone streets crisscross the city leading to the various districts, and the buildings themselves are constructed of a wide variety of woods, rocks, and materials that were available throughout the ages, creating a mosaic of cultural integration.

History

For over 6,000 years have the people endured here and made a life for themselves.  It has not been with out its ups and down, trial and tribulations.  While not every elvish skirmish, orc ambush, goblin raid, rogue wizard, depraved sorcerer, giant attack, small war, famine, pestilence, and natural disaster can be thoroughly addressed, some of the more notable events to occur are as follows.   In 5633 B.S. the small villages and outposts of the surrounding lands united together for trade and military support.  They named Vustiro as the capital city and the Vustir Nation was born.   In 2842 B.S. the dragon swarms finally came to the Vustir and ravaged the lands for years. In this year the great Dragostation destroyed the villages and capital city of Vustiro.     100 years later, after the defeat of the dragons and picking up the pieces, the people were finally able to reclaim and refound their capital city.  This time renaming it as Novus Tiro, meaning "New Beginnings" in 2742 B.S. The other destroyed villages of the nation were forgotten and left for the wilderness to reclaim, as all of the people sought protection together behind the walls of the new capital.  What was once a nation of many tiny villages and one big town, now became a nation of one large town that grew to be a nation of one very large city with a few hamlets scattered around its lands.    The prosperity of the new city continued with only a few adverse events until the Sundering and the Binding shook the planet in what is now called year 0.  Time before this is referred to as B.S., before the sundering and time after this is referred to as A.S., after the sundering.   Not all events are detrimental, in 645 A.S. the Sonians constructed a museum of history in Novus Tiro, adding it to the other wondrous buildings such as the Domus Liber.   Shortly afterwards, in 671 A.S., a very powerful earthquake rocked the city, toppling many buildings, igniting fires, and injuring thousands of people. Thanks to the enduring spirit of the people, they were able to once again rebuild and persevere.   Thankfully today, in 743 A.S., all seems normal and peaceful. May the deities keep it so.

Tourism

Many people come from lands far and wide to visit the city, see the sights, and partake in its wonders and services. Opportunities abound for a variety of shopping, employment, education, and religious endeavors.

Architecture

This capital city has a unique mixture of building architectures and styles representing its 6,000 years of history.  This great time span combined with a variety of races, cultures, and ethnicities make it one of the most interesting and diversely designed cities in the world.

Geography

Novus Tiro is located just below and outside of a pine forested and highly eroded plateau.  It provides a protective semi circular, hilly region near the western and northern areas of the city's lands. Many small, stream tributaries unite into a larger river, that flows south past the city. Wide expanses of flat lands, now containing many farms and orchards, extend far back from the river banks. Many small artificial ponds have been built in the farm lands and even a few in the city itself.

Natural Resources

A wide variety of natural resources come from the surrounding hills, forests, streams, river, ponds, farms, and orchards.  Many of these are either sold directly or processed into other goods and services available for sale in the city.  A city of this size and age has almost anything that a person could ever need or desire.

The Arrowhead Currency Of Novus Tiro  The arrowhead shaped currency of Novus Tiro comes in four main denominations, gold, silver, iron, and copper. All four are of the same size, about an inch and a half long, with slightly different thicknesses and weights due to the density differences of the metals. All coins bear the insignia of the ruling council of Novus Tiro, along with the year, and country’s name on top, and the phrase “Esto Perpetua” (Let it be forever) along the bottom. The depiction on the reverse for each coin is different and contains an image of historical importance.   The gold currency, known as a “Gold Head”, has a raised depiction of three arrows in flight, representing the people’s readiness and willingness to fight for their deities, country, and fellow man. It is made from a mixture of 50% gold and 50% silver and appears as a light colored or whitish gold. Due to the mixing of materials a single coin is valued at 1/2 gp, 5 sp, or 50 cp, in other countries that accept them.   The silver currency, known as a “Silver Head”, has a raised depiction of an unfinished brick wall, representing the rebuilding of the country after its devastation by the dragons so long ago. It is made out of refined silver and is generally the standard form of transaction of Novus Tiro. As such they are unsurprisingly valued at 1 sp or 10 cp. Aged “Silver Heads” tend to acquire black lines in between the bricks, that make them stand out even more.   The iron currency, known as an “Iron Head”, has a raised depiction of a hammer above an anvil and a sword below the anvil, representing how the coin can be traded in directly to blacksmiths, for the manufacture of other goods and weapons. It is made from processed iron, that has been coated in a protective substance in order to prevent oxidation. This substance coincidently coats the metal in a red veneer. This has led to further nicknames such as “Red Heads”, “Reddies”, “Blood Heads”, and “Bloodies”. Theses coins are most often traded in to blacksmiths, in order to forge iron and steel materials, tools, and weapons. A single coin is valued at 1/2 sp or 5 cp.   The copper currency, known as a “Copper Head” or simply called a “Copp” has a depiction of a large pine tree, representing the protection and resources obtained from the pine forest, after the people’s freedom from the Goliaths. It is made from pure copper, that is treated with a protective coating in order to prevent tarnishing and turning green. The very old “Copps” that have lost their protective coating and have turned a green color are referred to as a “Green Head”. The “Green Heads” tend to be disliked and avoided by the populace, but they still hold their equivalent value of 1 cp at any government bank.
