Inergal
Inergal (a.k.a. Midnight Dirge)
Inergal is an ancient black dragon that lords over the mirelands of eastern Innulthac. He is the current reincarnation of the black greatwyrm Ereshkigal and possesses his ancestor's onyx Dragon Core, making Inergal one of the most powerful dragons on Divostra. A reluctant member of the Chromatic Pact, Inergal seeks to free the Dragon Queen Tiamat from imprisonment in Avernus.

Personal history
Inergal was born near the end of the Sundering, when the plane had begun to heal from the damage caused by the cataclysm. Like all black dragons, Inergal was expected from an early age to lay claim to some territory within the Innulthac mirelands. Something within Inergal compelled the young dragon to conquer lands to the west of Falwyn's Mire, outside of the established domain of the black dragons. This brought Inergal into direct conflict with the dark elves of Lusindram and inadvertently sparked border disputes between the Drak Pralora of eastern Innulthac and the Drow, who saw the black dragon's encroachment as an act of war by the Iredrak Confederacy.
Inergal laid claim to the drow city of Tagnik'phalar, subconsciously drawn to the location of the onyx Dragon Core of the black greatwyrm Ereshkigal. Inergal offered to spare the population of the city if the drow swore to serve him. While the lower class aceeded to the black dragon's ultimatum, those in power reaffirmed their loyalty to Lolth and declared war against the invader. The city's underclass revolted and, backed by the might of a black dragon, slaughtered the city's rulers, allowing Inergal to claim the grand palace Renor'Valshath as his lair. While looting the palace, Inergal discovered the onyx Dragon Core in the private collection of the city's former lord; upon touching the artifact, the knowledge and power of Ereshkigal flooded into his descendant. Blessed with divine power, Inergal proceeded to carve out a wider territory than any black dragon since the Dracomachy, making him both an enemy of Lusindram as well as an object of worship for the Drak Pralora, who viewed Inergal as a divine sign that they should reclaim their ancestral empire.
