Elder's Keep of Skola Vale, Village of Skola Vale, Skola Vale, The Dark Rain Forest, Kampos     Story so far
So what has the party learned?   Long ago an Archfey dedicated himself to Tharizdun, and had some machinations to have his personal Domain of Delights in the Feywild to straddle the Material Plane and the Shadowfell. These plans were disrupted by a band of adventurers working with other Archfey to kill him and then made the Domain, aka the Skola Vale, now straddle the Material Plane and the Feywild. It also locked up the Ziggurat of Tharizdun (and Flying Ship Adventurer Class Airship) below in a pocket dimension.   Not too long ago the Goddess Bast had a purpose, it seems to possibly help a dying pharoah in some nameless City in the Mist. To do so she found a way into this hidden pocket dimension and took the Gem of Tharizdun -- a glowing Orb which holds the world of Toril (and its powers). She put it in a magical Brass orb to hide and protect it. This she gave to Sas W.T. Rayce, a Tortle hermit.   It seems that Bast entering this dimensional pocket allowed some essence or power of the Dead Archfey to escape, and this triggered a few seemingly random events. It brought the Wizard adventurer Pradam Estorich to Dierde from what has been called "Venger's Realm". It brought an evil Wizard turned warlock dedicated to the dead Archfey named Bargle from a world called Mystara. He seems to have the orb for his world and seeks another so he can have power. He was working for another Warlock, a Satyr dedicated to Tharizdun and they were seeking this other orb.   They had used their resources and those of the Arcane Order to hire mercenaries to attack the Skola Vale which triggered its relocation to the Feywild and it allowed them to search for the orb.   Now the party has cleared out all the threats allowing the Skola Vale to return. They fought a glorious battle with the last of the mercenaries in the temple which it seems Bargle used to 'test' and play with the party. He bailed on the Satyr which the party outnumbered and convinced to "talk". They had a conversation which filled in some holes to this narrative. He then seemed to jump into the dark void below and then the Skola Vale began to return.   Other notes:   Pradam Estorich has an orb to his realm, possibly -- in his hat. Vyerith was to leave Neyer with a contact from "The Road"

Fellnight 3, 2020KC

As the ship flew out of the Village it briefly entered a quasi-Feywild zone and so as they got airborne they actually ended up 7 days into the future on the Material Plane and so when they landed at the Elder's Keep they lost some time. Also, as the Adventurer Class Airship flew up through the "Feywild" in this state it caused Barlo and Arktos to lose the few moments of memory as they flew out of the cave and were airborne.   In the Village of Skola Vale they land next to the Elder's Keep of Skola Vale and notice the Dead Archfey of Skola Vale is now visible in the Village of Skola Vale.   Calliope Galanodel points out that this wasn't like this before. Barlo and Arktos have no memories, at this time, of the Adventurer Class Airship's travels after it left the cave.   The Elder of the Dawngreets greets the party.
Elder of the Dawngreets: I'm so glad you made it back, so I'm sure you had an interesting week. We need to talk about what is going on. If you come inside, I'll have the guards take care of the ship. We need to talk about this past week.
She leads them into the Elder's Keep of Skola Vale and then into a grand dining area generally reserved for hosting important dinners.   As they walk to the entrance they can see truly how awesome the underside of the tree is. It doesn't create as much shade as one would imagine from above as the underside has all manner of natural and created forms of lights.   They sat at the table and the Elder of the Dawngreets began to speak to them.
Elder of the Dawngreets: "First, I thank you. You entered a bargain with a Fey and I wanted to warn you that in the future it can be dangerous to make a deal with Fey. Some Fey can be dangerous to make deals with.   In this case, it worked out as you will all be well-rewarded and you fixed the Skola Vale, for the most part. There is a lot that happened this past week and I don't want to spring it on you too fast. So, a week ago when you went into the caves and fixed the Village of Skola Vale, well ..."   The Party : "A week ago?"   Elder of the Dawngreets: "part of the problem now is that we are on the Material Plane, but we can't get back to the Material Plane. A week ago we saw you Fly up and then you came down and I think what happened is when you flew out of the hole you temporarily flew through the Feywild and so you went a week later into the Material Plane"   **Insights: Sincere, but hesitant and careful in her words. There is a lot and she wants to keep things straight.**   Shadow in the Snow asked about the problem with 'making deals' and the Elder of the Dawngreets explained she wasn't scolding, only a warning as they are now in the Feywild and that many here can make deals and bargains which can curse people.   Elder of the Dawngreets: "Not sure how much you all know about the Feywild and its connection to the material, but sometimes when non-fey leave the Feywild it can change the time that they return. You were with a Fey and that should have protected you, or the very least she should not have lost the time -- but things are a bit odd here. Also to ensure any of you who lost time are restored."   She summons clerics and they restore the memories of Barlo and Arktos.   Elder of the Dawngreets:"If you exit the village now, you won't go back to the Material Plane and you will find yourself in the Feywild. Right now you are trapped in the Feywild, even though the village is in the Prime Material Plane. Except for the river (Fey Run), that is always in the Feywild. We're still trying to figure this out."   She goes a bit more into the oddness of time between the planes and how it affects the non-Fey. They ask about communication spells and the Elder says that they are technically in the prime so they can communicate with certain spells right now.   She tells him that the Dead Archfey of Skola Vale's body is now here. They sent some people down and saw the Ziggurat of Tharizdun, below Skola Vale and Black Obelisk. There are now guards down there. The tunnels lead to both The Underdark of the Material Plane and some to the Feydark She then summons some others who bring in the loot and remains of those they fought.   These guards come in with long Silver "serving trays" with assorted items incluing packages of butcher-paper wrapped meat.   Elder of the Dawngreets: "Traveling with you I learned of your crafting and of course meat for the Owlbear. We have packaged what we found. 9 orcs, 2 Troglodytes, and a Chaos Quadrapod - some Far Realms Monstrosity of which we know almost nothing about."

Bastion Bladesinger was a bit confused about the Archfey situation and the Elder of the Dawngreets explained the only archfeys involved so far was her and the Dead Archfey of Skola Vale which is currently a fossil.   The Elder explains that altough most do not eat the meat of Humanoids, but it might be good for the Owlbear in the least. She says they found some coins and what-not, which is on the trays. Some of the weapons they had might still be salvageable.   There are guards below, but one has gone insane, so no one is allowed down there. Problem curing him, not reacting well.

Elder: "The Village of Skola Vale is a school of sorts, hence why Calliope Galanodel was here. To reward those who deserve it, sometimes I will reward people with special knowledge that can help them know more about a subject. Now that my powers are restored, I can offer this to you all. Whatever you are interest in, a language or a weapon or some other field of learning."   Bastion Bladesinger: "Interesting. Do we have to choose now?"   Elder: "oh, no. Just let me know when you've decided. Whenever you're ready to make that choice.   As I said before, be careful about leaving the Village of Skola Vale right now or you will end up in the Feywild. I have also put some druids to work on your ship, we saw it needed some repairs. Although Flying Ships are not exactly something that people here have ever seen. I'm probably one of the few here who has ever seen one -- and I was very young at that time. Well, in my early days.   But there were some ways to handle such repairs, even though airships were on the decline at the time due to the influx of dragons. With some Druidcraft and other magics we should be able to plug up the holes and fix the masts.   oh, yeah there was something else. Bring in the professor.

The doors open and this grapefruit-sized glass orb floats in. This is a 5-lb Quartz glass orb. it speaks in Common. It flies up close to the Elder of the Dawngreets.
Professor Umbercresct: "ahem... My name is Professor Umbercresct."   (Bastion Bladesinger remembers this Professor Orb. He was one of the educators from his "college").   Professor Umbercresct: "I remember you,... Bastion Bladesinger, wasn't it?"   Bastion Bladesinger: "That is correct. Good to see you again."   Professor Umbercresct: "Yes. It seems that shortly after your time with us, I was stolen. And from there I went into a black market. I then ended up in the possession of those warlocks and I've had difficulty in escaping ever since. But here I am now. One thing I was wondering was -- since you guys would be going on travels, I would appreciate it if I could go with you. I can be helpful, I am a professor -- as Bastion Bladesinger could tell you -- on the history and fate of Netheril, Tharizdun, the lore of Dierde and Dragons, as well as the Far Realms. I love traveling and I can help you if you ever have any questions on these topics."   (there was a bit of a DM error made about the subjects -- but these are the correct subjects he is an 'expert' on.)   Professor Umbercresct: "And besides, if we ever get up to the Universities of Towekind you can drop me off then."   Bastion Bladesinger: "I don't see a problem with all of that, but the real question is how do we get out of the Village of Skola Vale?"   The Elder of the Dawngreets: "We're still looking into it, but the good news is that as we are in the final months of the year and the barriers between the planes tend to wane during these months. Especially as we get to the Winter Solstice. Also, with the end of the year is the Feywild Traveling Fair -- games and festivities. So enjoy some downtime and we can go from there."
The party decides to first send a Message to Lars Heyton & Ursa:
"Pradam is in danger. Crazy warlock named Bargle is looking for him. Keep him protected."   Response:   "The next time we see Pradam, we'll let him know. The gang is busy on a mission. Will let him know."

Elder of the Dawngreets: "Feel free to explore the Village of Skola Vale, try to stay out of the Fey Run river and avoid the border. In the Village Center & Stage for Skola Vale is a sign telling you how to get to the Feywild Traveling Fair."
  retcon
Quick retcon of food/water inventory. Also DM explained the strange loss of 7 days as Calliope Galanodel's player was late to the game. This is also the point in the game when I corrected my goof with the Professor Orb.

Bastion Bladesinger takes out the Diamonds from the Enderbox and puts them into his Stoneskin Brooch. As he places them in there is a slight glimmer and then the Diamonds sink into the Stoneskin Brooch.   At this time the Elder felt the party was comfortable enough in the news and so she looked to Calliope Galanodel.
Elder: "So, Calliope Galanodel, I will let you have the same reward I've promised the others -- feel free to choose on proficiency. Additionally, please let me see your hand."   A bit of Light comes from the hand off the hand that had the Elder's Glove of Lore.   Elder: "You want freedom and to explore. So I'm going to grant you the ability to use the lore 3x a day, which won't take too much of my power away. I want you to explore the world."   She takes out a book and hands it to Calliope Galanodel.   Elder: "And I want you to take notes on what you see and learn. As a Bard you need to learn and see the stories that make up the world. It will help you craft your Bard songs. This way I can just tell your father you are on a very special study program."   The Elder explains how the power of the lore takes up her power, so there was no limit at the time because it was to help the Skola Vale, but now she limited it so it wouldn't take too much of her power.   Elder: "So, feel free to explore. If you need beds, you can stay in here. Calliope Galanodel can show you around the town or you can go to the center for the faire or any of the stores for things you need."
The party discussed their money and the Elder told them there is a Gnome who could help them "color up" their Gold to Platinum. Caireall Donoghuei stays behind with the Elder.

Calliope Galanodel takes the party to the Banker, Wrenn Bafflestone, so they can color up their coinage. He trades whatever they're carrying to the coins they wish and only charge 5 gp. In the village center is a mushroom with a door and a large sign pointing to it saying "Carnival".   As they touch the door handle they shrink down and they open the door to enter the carnival.   2sp to enter, and they are told to be careful with their pets. They see there are a lot of activities here.

The Nine Cups

Bastion Bladesinger goes off to try the The Nine Cups, rules
The Nine Cups - 10 Gp   “Use your intuition to identify and seek out the cups that, upon visual inspection only, weigh, in order, lightest to heaviest!”   Increasing INT checks to beat the level. Win a prize at every level. Can trade it in to proceed to the next level. A DC 15 WIS check grants the player the correct placement of a single cup.   All cups are exactly the same size - each Metal’s density gives them their weight   Start with 2 randomly selected and in each round add 1 more cup.

Bastion Bladesinger picks up the two cups and puts them in the right order.   With the third cup he is unable to put them in the right order.

Catch the Dragon by the Tail

Shadow in the Snow goes to the Catch the Dragon by the Tail
Catch the Dragon by the Tail - 5gp   "Prizes! Prizes! Prizes! Catch the faerie Dragon by the tail and win a piece of its hoard!"   While blindfolded and standing in a booth, a participant must grab the tail of an elusive, giggling red faerie Dragon that flutters around them. The participant has three chances to succeed on a Wisdom (Perception) check. Someone who succeeds on the check catches the Dragon by the tail and rolls once on the Carnival Prizes table, or twice if the successful check occurs on the first attempt.

Shadow in the Snow reaches out and grabs the Dragon on the first try.     Barlo then tries to do the Catch the Dragon by the Tail and he is unable to get the Dragon as it flies around him like a cat chasing yarn.

The Nine Cups

Bastion Bladesinger returns to the nine cups, and made it to round 4 where he failed.     Tabletalk on Wizard's Spellbook
A discussion on how Archfey get their powers from their rank and they are not classically-trained in a class. They can have a near-godlike powerset. They can't teach a spell like others could, but maybe with some Fey power grant such knowledge. Also, a Wizard can buy scrolls or find others to scribe scrolls for them to put more spells in their book. A reminder it takes time & money to do this process as well.

Goblin Wrestling

Barlo goes to Goblin Wrestling
Goblin Wrestling - 5gp   "Strong folks! Test your mettle in a Goblin wrestle!"   A Small participant has to pin an unarmed Goblin (lawful good), while a Medium participant has to pin one Goblin while wrestling two of them. Winning the game requires a successful Strength (Athletics) check contested by the Goblin; two goblins working together make one check with advantage. Resolve a tie by rerolling. A victorious participant earns one roll on the Carnival Prizes table.

Barlo also pays attention to how they are storing the prizes...

Whack-A-Gnoll

Shadow in the Snow goes to try the Whack-a-gnoll
Whack-A-Gnoll - 10GP   “Have you the eyes of a hawk? The quick striking blow of a Hydra? The reflexes of a Water Elemental? Test yourself in a game of speed and agility! Wield your mallet with Haste to defeat the onslaught!”   Increasing DEX checks to beat the level. Win a prize at every level. Can trade it in to proceed to the next level. If you lose after trading in your prize you walk away with nothing!

Shadow in the Snow wins the first round. Wins a "Perfectly smooth stone" The Second Round, "Stone Snake Statue" Third round just barely, just as it is going down. Fourth round she misses.

"Perfectly smooth stone" & "Stone Snake Statue"

Guess the Number of Feathers

Calliope Galanodel goes to Guess the Number of Feathers
Guess the Number of Feathers - 5gp   "Birds of a feather? How about feathers of a bird? Step right up and guess how many feathers festoon this fiendish fowl!"   A participant gets three tries to guess the number of feathers on one of a group of caged Cockatrices. Someone who succeeds on a Intelligence check guesses correctly and earns one roll on the Carnival Prizes table, or two rolls if the successful check occurs on the first attempt.

She goes up to the cage and wants to touch the cage, the guard sees the hand going forward and warns her. She is thinking of trying some Illusion to create a hand, but instead she has nothing. She gets a glimpse of the history of the cage and the carnival how they go from plane to plane and various universes to bring these games. Lore (1)   She correctly counts the number and is awarded a Wooden Wand.     She then uses the first charge to shoot glitter on everyone.

Drinking Contest

The party (sans SaS and Bastion Bladesinger) all enters the Drinking Contest
Drinking Contest - 10 Gp   Opposing CON Checks Round-robbin Style. For the # of People in the Game, Each Round the Lowest Score Drops Out. You Are Drinking an Incredibly Strong Concoction That Probably Was Made to Overpower Most of Its Imbibers. While Delicious, It Feels Like Flames Licking the Inside of Your Stomach.   On the last round between the remaining 2 competitors, the lower roll gets to make a CON saving throw vs a DC 15. If they make it they stay in for one more round.   The last drinker standing (figuratively and literally) wins!

with the Pixie, the Goliath, Dwarf, and a Gnome as well.   The Pixie gets sick (again) and is out. The Goliath fails the second round. Dwarf downs the third drink right away, but Shadow in the Snow is the loser this round. Gnome loses this round as he falls out of his seat and passes out. Barlo starts coughing mid-drink and chokes. Calliope Galanodel gives herself a bardic inspiration, but is called out mid-cast. The Dwarf falls face-first and slides down his chair.   She wins:

40 gp & Chalk of Delay with 4 uses.
At this point, the prices of the games went down to 1gp for entry as it was getting "later" even though the sky does not seem to be changing from the twilight appearance.

Follow the Card

Sas W.T. Rayce steps up to the Follow the Card
Follow the Card   Use your intuition to Identify and seek out the right card.

Sas W.T. Rayce wins the first round   Sas W.T. Rayce loses the second round.   Sas W.T. Rayce tries again.   Loses on the first round.

Poetry Contest

Calliope Galanodel now goes to the Gnome Poetry Contest

We'll bring the gno-em!"   A participant must outperform a Gnome in a best-of-five poetry contest.   A participant must outperform a Gnome in a best-of-five poetry contest. Doing so requires three successful Charisma (Performance) checks in five or fewer attempts. Someone who wins the contest rolls once on the Carnival Prizes table, or twice if they succeeded three times without failing a check.

She is "living her best life" as she competes against a Gnome, in a poetry rap-battle performance. She pays her 1 gp and she gets more audience approval in the first round. The second round he gets flusterd and she wins that round. The third round ends as he quits half-way through knowing she is superior.   Calliope Galanodel is awarded 2 packets of the Pixie Dust.

Barlo wins the first round and the Goliath is out.   Second round, Barlo and Bastion Bladesinger miss getting opposite sides but same distance. Shadow in the Snow is a bit closer, but Sas W.T.
