Gem Grades

Depending on quality and value, a gem could be any of:

• Ornamental stone (base value 10 gp)
• Semi-Precious Stone (base value 50 gp)
• Fancy stone (base value 100 gp)
• Precious stone (base value 500 gp)
• Gem stone (base value 1000 gp)
• Jewel (base value 5000 gp)

Gem Magic

Many gems had special magical uses, either stemming from their value as material components in spellcasting and item enchantment or from their own innate and varied powers.
