Maritimae
Many tinkerers and merchants populate Maritimae, and Maritian clockwork is prized in trade. Not particular fans of all the pomp and bluster of organizing and selecting government officials, the Maritians have set up a demarchy. Officials are selected randomly from a pool of eligible citizens, automated using a device designed and built by Gnyx the Wise.
Actum is the second largest city in all of Mayar, second only to Herna. This bustling trade city is home to many different races and professions. The port of Bariaravila does trade all up the eastern coast and even to Aerey. As such, it is an excellent source for elvish wares.
Religion
Unlike their cousins the elves, gnomes don't take to building great temples to their deities, though they do build beautifully decorated, ornate shrines. The one exception is Gond, god of tinkerers and craftsmen, though, the Temple of Gond in Actum is more of a huge workshop cooperative to most outside eyes. Common deities among gnomish wizards and scholars are Mystra, Azuth, Selûne, Oghma, and Deneir.
Merchants and traders favor Waukeen.
Foreign Relations
Agriculture & Industry
Farmland is plentiful, as is wood, and the craftsmen of Maritimae are well known for their fine wood work. Potters, glassblowers, gold and silversmiths are common as well. The tinkerers are well known for their excellent clockwork, and they produce many experimental machines.
Trade & Transport
Trade with the Western Kingdoms travels through the great city of Actum by road, while goods headed for Aquitania, the halflings, or Aerey are shipped by sea out of Bariaravila.
Education
Education is of great importance to the gnomes, and the vast majority of adult gnomes are literate. All cities and most large towns have at least one library, and the capital contains the great Library of Actum.
Also home to many colleges and academies, the great University of Actum is a rival to Aquitania's University of Bonna. Also of note are Bariaravila Wizard's College and the Academy of Milil.
