The Forged

The Forged appeared overnight in the Gnomish Free State, after being created by the goddess Dreka

Naming Traditions

Unisex names

As a part of the creation process for new Forged, they are given (or choose themselves, it's unclear) a name for themselves to represent their path in life. These names can be as specific as an occupation they dedicate themselves too, or more general to describe a trait or action they find joy in.

Family names

Forged do not share family names.   When they realized the importance of Gnomish family names, and the bonding significance of sharing those family names, Forged decided to share in the tradition. When a Forged wants to indicate that closeness, they will offer a "friend" name. Example: a forged named Sails would offer the name Sails-friend. Gnomes happily append those names to their own.

Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

Worship of Dreka

All Forged share a kinship under their creator goddess. They deny the experience as a Religion, but describe it instead as having a shared Mother in Chains. The distinction is very important to them, and less adept acolytes of Dreka are often at a loss to explain the difference to non-Forged.

Kinship with Gnomes

The Forged were influenced by gnomish culture even while holding themselves a part from it. Dreka sent them to the safety of the Gnomish Archipelago, and so culturally the Forged acknowledge the gift of safety and peace the Gnomish lands and people have afforded them. At the same time, the Forged value their own personal cultural identity, and make some effort to keep their rituals and rites within their own community.   Gnomes, content

Common Etiquette rules

Forged have a strong depth of feeling, but they do not share normal humanoid body language. Since they are metal construct, they cannot mimic humanoid facial expressions.   Within their own communities their emotions are easy to read- pitch of whirring mechanics, stance, status lights, and steam emissions all contribute.   When interacting with gnomes and other humanoids, they will often state their emotions, or the emotions they want to project, outright. They seem to treat humanoid inability to read their emotions as a regrettable failing on the part of non-Forged, and they want to accommodate as much as possible.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

When forged are ready to raise another life, they travel to one of their few temples to ask for Dreka's kindness.   Forged are created in those temples, at slow, meticulous rates. The process itself is secret.   The initial Forged were created "to herald a new goddess; in her delight at living and her joy in the world, she created more beings to share in her feelings." Though Forged are not outwardly very emotional, at least to non-constructs, much of their philosophy revolves around loving all they find, taking joy in the act of living, and helping others so that they might do they same.

Ideals

Gender Ideals

A minority of Forged took on gender identities when they integrated. They seem happy with it.   The majority of Forged do not find the idea of gender terribly relevant, and will often underestimate it's importance to non-Forged, or Forged with other gender identities. Most Forged use ze/zir pronouns.
