Rivvenastorp Settlement in Dawn Islands | World Anvil

Rivvenastorp

Rivvenastorp is the center of magical learning in the gnomish free state. They're in possession of the grandest magical library, the best teachers, the weiredest pocket-dimension architecture. The joy and unlimted freedom of expression is rampant though the whole island. It's almost a point of pride to create a wizard tower so defiant of physics, so colorful and unique, that it blends in with the other loud, expressive constructions around them. There's a weird unity in the riot of colors and shapes that has evolved naturally among the gnomes.

This is one of the few places in the gnomish freestate that have a stronger sense of city wide Law and Order. There are rules on what magic can be done in public spaces, and the means that can be used in interpseronal conflicts.

Odd Jobs

Mercenary work and odd jobs need to be run through certain odd job men, to make sure work isn't taken from guild sources.

Max's

Max run's Max's. He is a gnome, short for a gnome, and absolutely jacked, with a dark red braids pulled into a tail of braids at the back of his skull.   Max's is brightly lit on the inside. He has a corboard where he posts his odd jobs, using special ""dagger"" thumbtacks, a large conference table, and exteremly mediocre coffee and danishes.

Guilds and Factions

Rivvenastorp Mages Guild

The mages guild is a hugely influential guild within the city, and not so much elsewhere. The rules for appropriate conduct between mages are decided here, as is the bickering inevitable when a large amount of people with different ideas and specialties.   Membership in the guild is not required, even for residential magic users. Guild members follow rules about conduct with those in and outside the guild, and are primarily responsible for the chaotic-yet-mostly-safe madness that is the city.

Guild Factions

Factions are non-exclusive specialty branches in the mage's guild. They consider themselves like minded groups of people with like-minded aims.
Researcher Faction
For mages who like to dig through records, experiment with unknown items, etc.   Researchers who are open to commission leave commission cards in the Mage's Guild house, which are magically replicated to the city library.
Battle Mages
The battle mages have never been used for battle. But it's a bitching name, and they're the sort who really go for that sort of thing. They have running job boards for dangerous missions where magic users would be useful, and are one of the few factions that welcomes the input of non-Guild members.
Alchemical Experimentation Faction
Focused on preserving and optimizing known magical potions, experimenting. They products are unstable and not considered good for re-sell, but they have claimed responsibility for some important discoveries.
Other Factions
Enchanters Circle, Illusionists, Ethical Practitioners of Necromancy,

Librarian Corps

The librarian Corps is run by mages and non mages alike- they are responsible for the running, organization, and administration of libraries across the gnomish free state. They have a small core team responsible for going after rare books, in and out of the archipelago, and are the very embodiment of “There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”

Forged Cultural Center

The Forged Cultural Center is a building built near the train station. It is a large, mirrored glass building that glints in the sunlight. The metal framework holding the glass panels is made of a lattice of changing metal types, producing an ombre affect going up the building. Once inside, it is clear that the building is designed specifically for Forged sized individuals, with only minor modifications made to the entrance area for gnome sized guests. In place of stairways, there are mechanical lifts that Forged can attach into and be raised and lowered at will, as well as other accommodations that would be a comfort to Forged and an inconvenience to others.   The Forged Cultural Center houses newly arrived Forged settling into the city, some leaders among Forged who do community work, and have rooms available for any Sentinel that finds their place in Rivvenastorp on their work.
