Ring of the Light-Bearer

A Magical Family Heirloom

Written by ninne124

The Ring of the Light-Bearer is a one-of-a-kind ring that has been passed down through generation of generations of Light Marked people. The most recent one to receive the ring was Loua, a young Spell-caster in Briarholm.
The ring gleamed in the dim light from the flickering flames. The gold looked as if it was glowing and the red gemstone swirled with power.   She knew it was special, the only thing her biological father had left her. Or rather he left it on accident and she'd been an accident as well, but nevermind that.
The ring was originally owned by Loua's biological father, however, no one is quite sure knows who this man is. Loua's dad left before knowing that Loua's mom was pregnant. According to Nellie, she only knew the man for one night and she found the ring a few days after they spend the night together. At that point, he was already long gone.   She decided to keep it and when Loua was born, she gave it to her. She didn't know about the magical properties of the ring until Loua developed her powers later in life.

Magical Properties

The ring is a magical artefact which is over three hundred years old, give or take. The ring is made by humans, and is quite the rare find, as most magical artifacts have been swept up by the different governments and leaders around Dysvoll.   The ring is likely infused with a considerable amount of Primal Light, the element which people with the Light Mark can command and manipulate by using Light Magic.
Some think the primal light is directly infused in the ring, others think it is connected to a weak Primal Light source so that the supply is seemingly endless. This theory might be true since none of the Primal Light seems to have faded from the ring over the years.
She's always wearing that ring, always thumbing it in some way.   I think it means a lot to her. Makes sense, when you know about the whole thing with her father.

User Benefits

The Primal Light that is infused in the ring can aid the caster in various ways.   The most notable benefit from wearing the ring is that the wearer will have an easier time performing Light Magic no matter what Fae Mark they have. A person with a light mark will feel the benefits of the ring the most, though it still isn't the biggest increase in power. A person without a Mark cannot benefit from using the ring.
Yesterday the ring glowed. I was out after dark - which was a bad decision - and the ring got warm and the stone glowed whenever a dark creature was near!

Other than aiding the wearer in the use of light magic, the ring is also enchanted with a protection spell.   This gives the wearer a bit of protection from magic, especially dark magic or dark creatures as it is a light magic protection spell.
Lastly, the ring can alert the wearer about Magic usage nearby. The ring will get warmer when a lot of Magic is used nearby or if the concentration of Primal Elements is higher than usual. It is especially sensitive when it comes to dark entities because they're more or less made purely from Primal Dark.

Physical Appearance

The ring is made of pure gold and has a very thick band and a round flat area in the centre of it. In the middle of the flat part is a small round ruby.   There are 7 runes marked into the flat area around the ruby. All of the runes relate back to the Fae and Primal Light, as well as the different enchantments put upon the ring.   It is clearly old and has multiple dents and scratches. However, the ruby is in perfect condition.

Author's Notes

This ring was originally drawn during Inktober and I had another article with the same title. That article has been deleted and this is a new one. I did this so that the likes the other article had gained before December wouldn't count towards the "most total likes" or anything similar.
