The Elemental Planes
There are 10 elemental planes that are the building blocks of the universe. All other planes are built from these base elements.
When speaking of the elemental planes the base building blocks are not meant but physical places one can visit that are almost only made up of one element. So when referring to the field of fire they mean the lay-lines that can be used to produce fire magic and not a plane of existence.
Most of these planes are not singular planes. Rather many smaller planes exist that are often ruled by a single elemental lord. These planes than connect to each other and other planes.
Many planes have elemental lords that rule over them. Some elemental lords succeed in mastering more than one element and for many these were the first steps to divinity.
Abjuration: Soothing the weave to stop magical effects, they interact with all the elemental fields for this. Abjuration is also used for protective spells of many forms pulling on many fields. The shield spell for example uses the Ethereal Plane to block attacks with unseen forces.
Conjuration: Interacting with Ethereal Plane and other fields for intra/inter-planer transportation. Creature summoning is often done using local spirits in temporary bodies. Conjure animals for example puts a nature spirit into a body made from temporary flesh with the help of the Field of Nature.
Divination: Feeling the weave and interpreting it’s patterns to discern past, present and future.
Enchantment: Interacting with the Mindscape of other creatures to influence or control them.
Evocation: Channeling the fields into raw and powerful affects. Most evocation spells limit themselves to one elemental field at a time.
Illusion: Interacting with the Radiant Plane, to create light for images, and the Mindscape to trick the senses.
Necromancy: Interacting with the Plane of Shadow to manipulate life force. Or create darkness.
Transmutation: Encoding or enclosing the real object in a temporary shell. Like the body of an animal when one polymorphs. Or effecting and changing the very essence of something so that it permanently changes.
Healing: Healing comes from many sources but the most prominent one’s are: The Plane of Nature and the Radiant Plane.
Storm Caller: Mages that focus on the storm elements: Air, water and Lightning.
Fervered: The studiers of light, sight and consumption. Associated elements: Fire, Radiant and Shadow.
Corporealist: Those who study the physical elements Nature and Earth.
Incorporeallist: Mages that delve into the mysteries of the two least physical elements: The Mindscape and the Ethereal Plane.

Magic is done by manipulating the ten base elements by pulling on the strings of the fields that pervade the cosmos. The collection of the fields is called the weave. Some place may be devoid of the fire field and so no fire based magic may be performed in these places. The schools of magic in general follow these lines but exception do exist.Abjuration: Soothing the weave to stop magical effects, they interact with all the elemental fields for this.
