Settlers

The Settlers are a group of people said to have come from the northwest of Old Phadoya. Like a few other groups, they had plans for continental domination in the middle of the Age of Triumph. Their conquest did not go completely to plan, because of wars, rebellions and Ice Age, that seemed to happen all at once. Now, the Settler population has effectively been killed, with very few of them still around today.

Violent History

First, the Settlers enslaved a local tribe, the Kozi, and forced them to build their empire. For many decades, this was the state of affairs. Even after the Settlers conquered more territories in the west, they still used the Kozi as free labour. They were impressed by the Kozi's ability to withstand the worst effects of Foreign Magic, that would kill other mortals. But the Settlers underestimated the contempt the Kozi held for their masters. They did not treat their slaves well and made it clear that the slaves were also there to be studied like lab rats.
The Settlers were successful in their conquest until the Sentinel War started. From that point onwards, the mini-empire started to fall. The Sentinels cracked the continent, which killed a lot of their population. Then, the Kozi, seeing an opportunity, felt encouraged to rebel against the Settlers. There was a smaller war between the two which lasted for many years.
In the end, the Kozi won and the Settlers let them go. At this point, the Settlers mini-empire was no more, because more people rebelled, and their native population was reduced to the hundreds. The Sentinel War was still ongoing, and that depleted more resources and killed more people.
At the end of the Sentinel War, the Ice Age hit, and the Settlers were some of the worst affected people. By the time it had finished, the Settlers as a people were no more. The few who are left are now scattered all over the Old World. A small group of Settlers can be found in the northern islands of the Sunlit Horizon, but they remain isolated from the local Kozoni population because of how they treated their ancestors, the Kozi.

Hidden Origins

No-one really knows where the Settlers come from, what they are or even their true name. To the Kozoni, they simply appeared one day and enslaved them. There are no records of them from before that point in history. Based on the Kozoni's descriptions, they could be related to Elves, because they have pointed ears. But people have so many different descriptions of the Settlers that it is hard to know for sure.
