The Ice Age
The Ice Age was a period around 500 years ago, where the world's temperature dropped and the world completely froze. Although it lasted for around 100 years, researchers and scientists thought that the ice sheets began forming a while before the actual Ice Age happened.
The Ice Age completely changed the world and destroyed almost two thirds of the world's civilisations. The remaining ones were those who could adapt to the sudden change in climate. In some places, the environment was so cold that the people who lived there were completely frozen for centuries. It also reshaped many parts of the landscape, forming three large continents that exist today: the Known World, the New World and the Old World.
Cause
It is not known what caused the last ice age, but people think there have been more periods like it in the past. Some people and groups such as the Guardians of the Realms think the Ice Age was the world's way of self-correcting, as less people connected with the Spirit Realms. Others think that the Sentinel War triggered something in the world that started the Ice Age. One thing was for sure: it was not a natural occurence.Arcanic Ice
The people who survived the Ice Age told tales of the ice sheets behaving unlike normal ice. The ice first spread quickly, like water, and completely froze all the land within a few months. Over the next few years, the spread slowed down, but it still behaved the same way.Aftermath

Except it's a city that was built around me while I was apparently frozen for 500 years!"Before the Ice Age, most people lived in what is now the Old World. While some of it was already destroyed in the Sentinel War, the continent could not adapt to the sudden change in climate, so many plants and animals died. When the Ice Age ended, what was left of the continent was called the "Old World", as all there was death and decay. The disappearance of the Sentinels and the ensuing Ice Age triggered the collapse of many societies, who were left to fend for themselves in the new climate. After The way people used Arcanis changed as well, as they became less reliant on the Sentinels, who had left them for dead. In the years after the Ice Age, the world warmed itself again, thawing everything that was frozen in the preceding decades. Species reappeared and plants began to regrow. Ancient civilisations frozen in time were revived over the next few centuries. In fact, relics, people and animals are still being thawed to this day.
