The first refugees from the Sundering arrive on the island, building the village of Daly and claiming the seemingly uninhabited land as their own.
The initial 'Kingdom of Daly' barely reached for 50 miles in any direction- but the survivors of the sundering fought hard to keep that land safe and grew in number rapidly.
The first refugees from the Sundering arrive on the island, building the village of Daly and claiming the seemingly uninhabited land as their own.
La Liotsound becomes the first town built on the island, becoming the capital for newly chosen King Liot.
King Liot is chosen from the remaining nobility to take rulership of the new Kingdom of Daly and ascends the throne in the newly constructed capital.
A violation of the newly built temple of Arawn led to mass rioting and pitched battles between the temples of the gods in La Liotsound.
The new kingdom started seeing frequent raids by Paruel, who were beaten off frequently but continued to plague the coastline for the next decade.
The original council of Founders, in power since the Founding, was overthrown by King Liot and his nobles, citing the ongoing religious troubles as the reason religious types were unfit to have any say in ruling.
The Great Plague almost halved the population in the course of one year.
The prototypes of a new fighting ship design successfully stopped further incursions from Paruel and created the first Daly Fleet.
The Second Plague ravaged the kingdom again, although thankfully immunity was still high and it only carried off 1 in 10, targeting mostly the elderly and sick.
The void on the throne leads to an uprising of the temples, demanding to take over the rule of the country
The most vocal of the temple priests were assassinated by Prince Heron, leading to his crowning as King by the remaining nobles.
The temples banded together to plot the assassination of King Heron, but the plot was discovered and foiled, with many in the temples facing harsh punishments.
A decade on from the Temple Plots, the remaining nobles of the Founders Council joined forces to lead a rebellion against the unpopular King Heron, but this was unsuccessful and ended in their death.
Increasingly paranoid and determined to do something to wipe out the lingering doubts about his rule, King Heron led an invasion south, destroying several existing Elven towns in search of land and riches.
King Heron was killed in a duel by his cousin once removed, half-elven Princess Nienna, in retaliation for the razing of the elven towns and his unfitness to rule.
After a mostly static start, the kingdom grew steadily over the next 300 years, through a mixture of diplomatic and military action under a series of clever and brave kings and queens.
Queen Nienna ascends to the throne of Daly at the age of 39, after her duel with her uncle King Heron.
Queen Nienna finalised a treaty to join Daly to the lands of her elven kin to the south, expanding the kingdom down to the northern banks of the Enth.
A famine swept the land, caused by an unseasonably cold and wet summer and creating much hardship
A concerted push brought the south banks of the Enth into the kingdom, and extended the eastern border as far as Lake Liot and the Icebound Peaks
King Tristram leads a military campaign south, pushing the monsters back for almost a hundred miles over the course of 6 years
The town of Lynnport is built to provide a safe harbour for those sailing from La Liotsound to the new lands in the south.
A massive tidal wave destroys half of La Liotsound and many of the villages along the coast.
The shock of losing half of the capital and many of the oldest villages in the kingdom is too much, and King Tristam dies during the disaster.
Relentless monster attacks from the mountains to the east overrun several villages and demand attention from the army
An earthquake, shaking loose half of a mountain, permanently changed the course of the Enth by raising the water level dramatically with the addition of thousands of tons of fast flowing water redirected to this side of the range. The Enth widened as a result, creating the Enth Bay and Miremere, and leaving the newly named Dragon's Eye as an island rather than a hill on the south bank.
king Jared dies, succeeded by his daughter Queen Livet
Fighting breaks out between the 'good' and 'evil' temples, with fighting in the streets of La Liotsound
Queen Livet negotiates a peace treaty with the raider villages to the south, expanding the borders almost as far as the unnamed river
Monsters start flooding over the new southern border, creating an ongoing war that lasts nearly 25 years intermittently.
With the monsters finally driven out, the raiders to the south seize their chance to attack the weakened Daly army, with raids increasing in frequency and the treaty broken.
An advance in farming technology nearly doubles the food production of Daly, with many more crops able to be planted in the same area with careful use of complementary species and better grafting and splicing available.
Queen Livet dies and is succeeded by her eldest son, Newalt.
The raiders are finally conquered, and the borders expand south to the newly named River Lovil, named for the newborn Prince
A settlement treaty is written with the remaining lands between the kingdom and the Frozen Fingers, and Prince Lovil is dispatched to build a settlement and bring order to the area
A peasant uprising to the newly settled south draws military focus and a rapid resolution
A flood destroys several of the villages along the banks of the Enth
The settled area to the east is formally brought into the Kingdom, which now stretches from the Liot to the Lovil and over to the mountain range forming the spine of the island.
The hunting lodge and village made popular during King Lovil's childhood is formally recognised as a town.
A settlement treaty is signed for the area to the north of the Liot with the people of the desert
A famine stalks the central belt, putting the newly built city of Thunmalt at risk.
King Lovil dies, leaving behind only a son born out of wedlock named Geraint. The nobles press instead for the crown to pass to his nephew, Hira, son of Lovil's sister Princess Lieth.
The newly crowned King almost immediately sends his troops south to expand the kingdom's borders.
A peace treaty is signed with the peoples south of the Lovil, bringing a large swath of land into the kingdom.
Daly was ruled over with fear and terror by the warlock Aelfric the Dark for a brutal year before he was killed, but when Duchess Ila was raised to Queen, she proved worse, her actions ravaging the kingdom before she was brought down.
King Hira dies childless, assassinated by the warlock Aelfric the Dark who rises to power.
Aelfric the Dark, a warlock of phenomenal power, killed the childless King Hira and installed himself as ruler, bending the nobles to his will with a mix of spellwork and coercion. It took a brave party of adventurers to end his rule during the Winter Solstice and bring his tyranny to an end.
Duchess Ila is chosen by the remaining nobles to take the throne, having the closest blood ties back to the founders, in an attempt to cut off any claims from the Avilet Empire (who had an equivalent claim to Daly through Queen Avril of Avilet, granddaughter of Queen Livet)
A failed assassination attempt against Queen Ila raises political tensions to breaking point, and sends her into paroxysms of paranoid terror, leading to a bloody retribution against nobles and commoners alike.
In a rash attempt to regain some of the popularity of the expansionist rulers of the past, Queen Ila breaks the peace treaty with the south as she attempts to push the borders of the kingdom to the south coast. Resistance is harsh, and a huge war erupts.
Tired of almost a decade of war, constant political upheaval and rampant, violent, pananoia gripping the capital, the nobles rise up and remove Ila from power, confining her for the rest of her days in the temple of Goibniu, in the hopes of healing her fractured mind and soul and bringing her clarity and knowledge before her final days.
The raising of a bastard line to the throne after a dark period, and the increase in power of the temples, lead to a brief but bloody period where the religious held sway over Daly.
After the deposition of Queen Ila, the nobles were desperate to restore Daly to the steady certainty of the past, and, hoping the bloodline had bred true, raised Jareth to the throne- the commoner-born great-grandson of King Lovil the Great.
Unfortunately, Jareth saw this as the direct intervention of the gods, not the nobles, and started giving the temples previously unheard of access direct into the heart of Dalian politics.
A massive tidal wave destroys many of the villages along the entirety of the west coast.
A peace treaty is signed with the south in order to help rebuilding and resettlement efforts resulting from the tidal wave. The temples are heavily involved in bringing this about, rather than the displomatic efforts of the nobles.
The Violet Plague strikes, carrying off one in three adults but leaving children untouched.
The temples, having grown in power exponentially, strike against the King, justifying it with the illegitimacy of his grandfather's birth and the revocation of his divine right to rule.
HIerophant Arias, leader of all the temples in La Liotsound, rises to power with the help of an army of clerics and paladins. Vowing to bring the gods back to Daly, he manages to cement a significant base of power in the capital, although struggles to reach the outlying areas of the kingdom.
A significant advance in building methods led the nobility to start building robust, well protected fortresses, and start building their militias and guards against the creeping rule of the Hierophant and his armies.
The Hierophant, the limits of his power already stretched thin, falls to the increased might of the nobles as they lead a civil war against him.
The ascension of young Queen Haileth to the throne, and her resulting long reign, allowed an era of prosperity and building to begin, built upon by her very capable children and grandchildren.
Queen Haileth, granddaughter of King Jareth, ascends the throne with the support of the nobles. Although only 15, she is amongst a generation who also came to power young amongst the tragedy of the Violet Plague.
The peace treaty with the south fractures, but their raids break harmlessly against the fortresses of Daly.
A settlement treaty is written with the remaining lands to the north, extending the kingdom all the way to the north coast. A fortress is built at Dragonwatch to better protect the west coast and La Liotsound.
Paruel pillages the newly gained northlands, looting and raping in a series of violent raids over the next 20 years until a series of small forts are built along the coast
Queen Haileth sends young Prince Hira to the south to consolidate and develop the area, and more firmly repel the rebels. He remains in the area for nearly 2 decades, overseeing the development of the region.
West Bour is built, the largest city south of the Lovil and designed to be a bastion of civilisation in the south.
Queen Haileth dies at the age of 66, succeeded by her eldest son, Hira II, but with her remaining 3 children taking an equal hand in the running of Daly.
King Hira takes the throne and moves south, leaving his youngest brother, Tristram, to look after the north and his other brother, Godric, to regulate the midlands. His sister, Princess Lieth, is sent to live witht heir distant cousins, the royalty of Avilet, with the hopes of building ties between the two nations further.
The capital is moved to West Bour, the city new King Hira helped design and build to modern standards. This move marks the final death blow to any hope of religions holding significant power in Daly ever again.
After a bloody campaign, the kingdom finally extends all the way to the south coast and harsh terms of surrender are drawn up for the defeated southlands
Unknown assassins kill King Hira II, his wife and children, and his brother Prince Godric, leaving only his younger brother Tristram, safe in the north desert forts.
A sudden advancement in crop rotation farming techniques usher in an era of peaceful prosperity for peasants across the kingdom
An act of treacherous sabotage against the capital of West Bour vaporises half of the city and causes the lake to quadruple in size from the force of the blast
A rogue mage, Harding the Red, is finally found to be responsible for the West Bour tragedy and is defeated by a group of hardy huntsmen and fighters from the town of Prince Lovil. This marks the founding of the Adventurer's Society.
An enormous avalanche east of Prince Lovil destroys a huge swathe of the Bour Forest, opening up a route to the east
A settlement treaty is written with the dwarves and elves of the Frozen Fingers and the Bour Forest, allowing expansion towards the east coast
A large invasion of monsters from the Cairgon Ranges pushes back against the new settlements. It is found to be instigated by the gods of darkness
The Neutral gods step in to broker a peace between the Dark Gods and the Gods of Light, putting an end to the large scale battles fought by their followers and embedding in the mountains a wonderous artefact- 'The Link'- that requires a representative from all humanoid races currently living on the island to join together every 10 years without violence to perform a ceremony, or it will unleash death on all humanoids anywhere within the land
The Link is somehow stolen, putting the whole island at risk
The Bonded Ones, an adventuring party balanced between all humanoid races, manage to recover the artefact just in time to prevent it triggering. It is taken back to the mountains, and this time The Bonded Ones mount a permanent guard
A failed coup reminds King Tristram II of his age, and he abdicates in favour of his young son (of his fourth wife) Prince Tristram, (his older daughter, Princess Livet, already being more than 70)
A new settlement treaty sees the kingdom expand to the east coast for a 50 mile swathe east of the pass
A major cave-in of the dwarf mines under the Frozen Fingers leads to many dwarven refugees moving to Prince Lovil
A peasant uprising amongst those sent to colonise the east requires the army to intervene
The refugee Dwarves build North Tiervik and it's passage, as both thanks to the Adventurer's Society who took them in, and as a way to easily move back and forth across the mountains
An attempted military coup draws attention to the north
A hag infiltrates The Bonded Ones, in an attempt to gain control of the Link, but is defeated in battle
A settlement treaty is signed with the denizens of the Bour Forest, allowing the kingdom to expand south along the east coast.
King Tristram III abdicates in favour of his oldest child, his daughter Haileth.
An extended period of religious turmoil in the temples comes to a head with the Liot Accords, where it was agreed that all religions would be equally represented in a Temples Council, which will send an elected representative to join the Privy Council, rather than the seat automatically going to the personal religious adviser of the current king or queen.
Queen Haileth II dies under odd circumstances, with succession clear in favour of eldest son Godric.
The ascension of King Godric to the throne is challenged by his cousin Princess Aliette, married into the Avilet royal family (in turn descended from Queen Livet I) and claiming greater right through both marriage to the legitimate heir, Prince Aefric of Avilet, and through her father Prince Newalt, King Tristram III's only son.
Prince Godric is anointed King despite his cousin's claims, but Avilet invades to press Aliette's claim to the throne. A decade of civil war breaks out, with regular invasions from the Avilet Empire bringing support from some of the population, but Godric fiercely supported by more.
After nearly a decade, King Godric manages to defeat his cousin and her husband, signing a peace treaty with Emperor Aeric of Avilet and finally being able to officially claim the throne of Daly.
A tidal wave hits the west coast, destroying many of the coastal villages and those along the Enth.
King Godric, his younger son Prince Lovil, and several of his nobles, who were unfortunately sailing at the time of the tidal wave, are killed.
King Harding signs a settlement treaty with the remaining lands to the south east, meaning the kingdom now encircles the Bour Forest and covers most of the south coast
In memory of his lost brother, King Harding grants protected town status to the town of Prince Lovil, officially ceding the land the town is on to the Adventurer's Society in perpetuity, in recognition of the adventurous spirit of all the Prince Lovils who have gone before
A settlement treaty is signed to expand the kingdom northwards along the eastern edge of the Frozen Fingers
A huge landslide causes massive flooding all along the Liot, with enormous loss of life.
The scale of the Liot disaster plunges King Harding into a deep depression. He takes his own life without producing a heir, and the crown goes to Marguerith, the 6 year old granddaughter of his younger brother, with her uncle Duke Idorith standing as regent.
6 year old Princess Marguerith is elevated to Queen, with her Uncle, Duke Idorith, standing as Regent until she reaches the age of 16.
Duke Idorith, concerned for the health of his young Queen, commissions the building of a new royal city, Grantshawk, along the banks of the River Lovil, where the coastal air is clean and the weather is neither too warm nor too cold
The guilds, emboldened by the apparent weakness of Queen Marguerith and the lack of other royal heirs as she comes of age, attempt an assassination with the aim of creating a meritocratic democracy rather than a monarchy. It fails, the nobles rallying massively to her cause.
A military campaign is launched to take control of the Dragon's Talon islands, where an increasing number of raiders have been building a slave colony of Dalians
The settlement treaty to the east is broken, with a last surge of nationalistic pride from the Karthians attempting to claim back the east and drive the Dalians out
The Black Horror, a plague killing one in ten, sweeps the east, and only the natural barriers of the forest and mountains keeps it from spreading west.
The death caused by the Black Horror puts an end to the ongoing battle, and Queen Marguerith officially designates the land to the east as the Barony of Karth, allowing the rebellion's leader to take the title Baron Jacinth and start rebuilding
Queen Marguerith dies peacefully in her sleep, the crown passing to her eldest son, Harding
Now encompassing most of the island, the Kingdom of Daly was huge. Over the next several centuries the focus was not on expansion, but on development- new towns and cities sprang up, trade blossomed, and art and culture was on the rise.
Enthmere is built, designed to protect the Enth from an increasing number of pirates preying on the trade traffic along the river and up and down the coast
An advance in military tactics and abilities allows a much more effective naval force to be built
A major earthquake destroys part of the northern Icebound Peaks, creating an enormous lake at the head of the Liot. The new Lake Liot is found to be innately magical, filled with an unusually high proportion of magical fish and creatures
A trade treaty is signed between Daly and the Avilet Empire
King Harding II dies, childless like his namesake, and is succeeded by his younger brother, Meric
The nobles rise up against King Meric, attempting to put the young Prince Gregor on the throne as a puppet king. Their poisonous plot fails, and nearly 1/3 of the nobles are put to death for treason. Prince Gregor is sent to Avilet to keep him out of Dalian politics. It succeeds better than expected, Prince Gregor quickly becoming engaged to an Avilet Baroness, Jeanne.
King Meric, seeing treachery everywhere, sets off to try and form an alliance with the dangerous Paruel, scared that the Avilet Empire will use Prince Gregor to try and take his throne. He is not heard from again
As it is more than 5 years since the King was last heard from, his eldest son, Tristram, is officially crowned King Tristram IV
Princess Livet, the King's younger sister, marries Duke Byshirom and they build North Byshirom together to provide a counterpoint to the increasing power of the mages who now control the entire Bour Riding from West Bour- technically still the capital, but without a royal court since the early 700's.
A settlement treaty is appended to the trade agreement with Avilet, witht he whole being renegotiated between King Tristram IV and the Avilet Empire (with the assistance of his uncle, Prince Gregor) allowing for the building of a small port town on the edge of the empire for trading purposes
Built as a feat of modern engineering at the top of the cliffs, Long is aligned with the pass through the central mountains of Daly and the pass through the mountains of Avilet into the heart of the Empire, forming the quickest route for goods to flow back and forth.
The fortified town of East Bour is built to provide a safe place on the east edge of the Bour Forest for those colonising the coastline
The Byshiroms build South Byshirom to form a southernmost anchor for the kingdom and provide safe haven for trading ships travelling round the southern edge of the island
An act of vile sabotage kills Princess Livet as she works to build the new city.
King Tristram IV formally makes Grantshawk the capital of Daly, removing some of the power from the mages of West Bour.
During the festival relocating the capital, King Tristram IV abdicates in favour of his son, Kentric
All of the temples of the Dark Gods simultaneously go quiet- unnervingly in the same day and hour. Nothing is heard from them for 10 years
King Kentric takes part personally in the Link, having had reports that half of the Bonded Ones have mysteriously passed away. Within a day of the ceremony being completed, the temples of the Dark Gods resume service as if nothing had ever happened
King Kentric is killed by monsters as he travels near the Liot hills, with clear succession in favor of his eldest son, Godric
King Godric III takes the throne, and promptly marries his cousin Princess Mariella to Baron Marthric of Avilet, descendent of the exiled Prince Gregor, in order to deepen links between the two countries. This exemplifies his reign, which is one of the most politically charged in Dalian history
The Duke of Cumond is killed, along with all of his family, when their stately home is engulfed in flames. Rather than name a successor, King Godric III reverts the Duchy to a Province, and sets up an elected Viceroy as head of a council formed of minor nobles and the heads of the major Thunmalt guilds to lead the area.
In a blow to the now ancient Duke Byshirom, North Byshirom is razed to the ground overnight in a 'freak magical accident'. King Godric III responds by calling a grand conference, after which he inserts handpicked mages into the Arcane Academy and requires all magic users henceforth wishing to go beyond a certain level to pass various tests and exams to prove their control. His sister, Princess Livet (named for their great-aunt) is one of these mages
Lynnport, having grown exponentially as the country prospered and trade increased, is granted city status
The Link is once again stolen by unknown hands. King Godric III, realising he is too old to deal with the issue himself, sends his daughter, Mage-Princess Jessamine, to seek it out. She is not heard from again
King Godric dies of old age. With oldest child Jessamine still missing, the crown passes to only son Harding.
Princess Jessamine does not appear, but nor does death sweep the island. No-one now knows the location of the Link, but it is assumed to have been either disabled or secretly activated
King Harding III spends much of his time on the east coast, overseeing the rebuilding of the tiny village of Port Tianston into a city, designed to be a major hub for seafaring trade to Long.
King Harding III dies without issue, having spent his entire time as king focussed on building Port Tianston and increasing trade with the mainland. His funeral is held at Port Tianston as it is formally recognised as a city, and his sister Haileth, already in late middle age, takes the throne.
In her only major act as Queen, Queen Haileth III signs a formal perpetual peace treaty with Avilet
Feeling herself too old to rule well, Queen Haileth III abdicates in favour of her son, Meric
A vile necromancer, Dariert the Grey, is killed by the Adventurer Society as he attempts to sweep through the Duchy of Lynn towards Grantshawk with his undead army. Lynnport is mostly destroyed before he can be killed, and more than half of the Society perish.
A trade treaty is negotiated with the kingdom of Osmein, allowing new plants and herbs to be brought into Daly. Healing potions rapidly become more commonplace due to the potent new strains of herbs coming from Osmein
As his last act as king, King Meric II signs a settlement treaty with the Avilet Empire extending Daly's lands eastward to the mountain range and southwards towards the Wooded Isles.
King Meric II retires to build a fortified city overlooking the Wooded Isles, at the south end of the new mainland territories, ceding the throne to his eldest child, Marguerith. There are rumours the new city is either to protect, or protected by, a dragon.
The fortified city overlooking the Wooded Isles was King Meric's personal project, and rumors say that the whole city-fort is riddled with secret passages and hidden buildings.
On the very last day of the millennium, a plague breaks out in Enthmere. Christened the Red Death, it killed within minutes of the first symptoms appearing, and wiped out nearly half of the soldiers and traders living in the town in less than a week. The city is abandoned until the origins of the disease can be identified and eradicated
A party of adventurers find the Link and the Bonded Ones still guarding it, held in some form of suspended animation. The lost Mage-Princess Jessamine is one of them. They report in secret to Queen Marguerith III, who elects to keep the knowledge within the royal family only
The celebration of 1000 years since the founding of Daly brings a year of nationwide festivities
Queen Marguerith II falls from her horse riding out to deal with a minor peasant uprising, breaking her neck. Her eldest son, Godric, succeeds the throne
Both King Godric IV and the next in succession, his brother Prince Jareth, die in unfortunate accidents less than 4 months apart. The throne passes to Prince Jareth's daughter, Livet, still only 16
Queen Livet II's brother, Prince Hira, dies while sailing to Long to inspect the mainland cities. Queen Livet asks the Privy Council to summon all resources possible to determine if her relatives are unusually unlucky or if there are sinister forces at work
Queen Livet II goes missing while travelling to Fort Roblack. No amount of scrying or searching finds her
King Tristram V, Queen Livet II's cousin twice removed, takes the throne. His mother, the sorceress Princess Liovette, attends as his advisor
Palmbar Colonies are ceded to Daly by the Avilet Empire, and with it all of the remaining land west of the mountain range. Daly now rules a roughly 100 miles wide strip of mainland stretching some 500 miles north to south, and trade is booming
King Tristram V dies in his sleep, at exactly the same time as his unnaturally youthful mother Princess Liovette. He is succeeded by his eldest daughter, Morgause
Morgause's reign saw the final steps to overhaul the governance and nobility of Daly into a system that was based on merit as much as birth. Each area of Daly finally achieved equal representation during her rule, and she is widely considered the fairest queen of all.
The last Count Enth dies. Enthmere has long been the haunt of brigands, robbers and thieves, few others willing to brave the cursed city of the Red Death. Queen Morgause formally renames the County as Enth Province, and puts a provincial council in place to run it made up of guild heads, minor nobles and mages.
With only a few major nobles left, Queen Morgause dissolves the Privy Council. She puts in place a new Parliament to advise her, consisting of an equal mix of magic users, nobles and guild masters from each region of the country, building on the success of the provincial council in Enth.
An advance in military magic allows Queen Morgause to reduce the standing army to less than half. The retired soldiers are all given a healthy pension and the retraining of their choice, but many choose to travel to other countries as mercenary bands
An assassination attempt staged by some disgruntled former soldiers technically fails, but Queen Morgause, seeing foes around every corner, dies of a heart attack less than a month later, leaving the throne to her daughter Lieth
It has been 200 years since the disappearance of the Link, and most have forgotten it exists other than the Adventurer's Society. It comes as a shock, then, when at midnight on the summer solstice a bell like sound rings across the entire island and an earthquake shakes every inch of it. Frantic research suggests the most likely cause is the severing of the Link due to the ceremony not being completed. Everyone waits anxiously to see what the result will be
The temples are in disarray, and petition the Queen for help in maintaining faith and peace. Some were predicting plague, others armies of celestial or fiendish beings, yet others uncontrollable civil war. None of these seem to be coming to pass, and now the common consensus is that the Link was a half-millennia long practical joke
Five years after the severing, the true cost has become clear. Monsters are no longer mostly staying in the deep woods and mountains of the island. Raids and attacks have been increasing, especially in the soft heartlands of the west. The death that will cover the island comes in the form of an increasing madness among the beasts and brutes of the kingdom. It comes to a head when the Queen's uncle, Prince Lovil, is killed by a fearsome manticore- a monster that hasn't been seen in over 600 years
East Bour is destroyed by a horde of monsters almost overnight. Many hope it was only it's isolated location and proximity to the Bour Forest that made it a target
Present day. The Adventurer's Society has been out looking for the Link for the last 4 years, hoping that by finding it and performing the ceremony they can cease the flow of monsters. However, they are also much in demand to protect settlements and subjects from the monsters, so resources are spread thin
