Since the event known as
The Breach - opening of
The Maw - the scholars of Daënfel have pondered and argued over the meanings behind the
creation of life in this world.
All know that humans are the chosen of
the Avanís Pantheon, the
Dagnir Sen being the first men who have occupied the continent since its creation, but there is much debate as to how to classify the other races and creatures of the world.
Culture has evolved throughout the course of Daënfel's history in that there are four different general classifications given to the people of this world, and
some Empire citizens trend towards treating these four groups in different ways.
((This is not a race tier list. Please don't come for me.))
Humans
As the scripture of the Dawning Empire would put it; "The original creations of this world, moulded by the hands of the Gods and placed in this world to be the custodians, rulers and owners of this land."
Humans form the majority of the continents inhabitants - around 65% of all Empire citizens.
Demihumans
These are the beings that resemble humans, but are profoundly different in their appearance and approach to living.
This quite specifically includes the following races: Elves, Dwarves, Halflings and Gnomes. Humans with abnormal heritages can sometimes be considered part of this category, depending how heavily their heritage is perceivable.
Generally considered good-natured and agreeable people, the members of these races are full Empire citizens and are treated well.
They sometimes find themselves on the receiving end of some unwarranted jealousy, inquiries or violence, but the frequency of this is low enough that they are not openly treated differently from humans.
These beings form another 25% of the Empire's total population.
Humanoids
By far the most controversial group, these beings form a relatively large percentage of the beings of Daënfel, however are treated poorly by the Empire and are viewed with suspicion by its citizens.
Orcs and Goblins are the only two races in this category - forming 10% of the Empire. They are designated as such due to their humanoid stature, but with too many physical differences for Empire citizens to look past.
When there is Empire business involving these people, the darker side of human nature appears, and the members of these races are often the victims of abuse or foul play.
It is the
Founding Fathers that are the chief perpetrators of these beliefs, as their doctrine suggests that humans were the first of the
Avanís Pantheon's creations, and that the other races should defer in servitude.
This leads to members of these races to often form communities amongst one-another along the outskirts of civilization, for both protection and to share their unique cultural histories.
Militant groups from these races have risen in the past to combat the brutality they face, never making much traction amongst the Empire. Some citizens of other races do support these groups, however with every confrontation the divide that separates this group from the rest of society widens.
Monstrosities
These races are capable of written or verbal communication, but are considered so far removed from humans that they are more monster than anything else.
Dragons, giants, leshies, kobolds, lizardfolk or any of the other sentient races not given another designation fall under this category.
This group are not citizens of the Empire, but might be accepted within niche communities far from the centres of civilization.
Some members of these races do operate in the hubs of the Empire, though always secretly or with masked appearances.
