Session Start and Recap

Our session began with the usual recap of events; The PC's have been tasked with investigating cult activities in the peninsula and destroy any cult that may exists as well as charged with heading to Skad to find an Inquisitor to the High King that was sent there in order to resolve problems occurring in the city.   The PC's were recapped on the events leading up to their specific predicament, including their travel to Enderfaso, their encounters with Mathias, the bartender at the Broken Boulder, and the killing of the cook in the back of the store.   Note: Ishmael has changed the spelling of his name to more befit his character. He is now Ish Ma'el.

Murder and Fire

The PC's brought Mathias to the front of the Broken Boulder. Ish Ma'el, worried about guards, reviewed the Seal of the King, believing that guards would approach. A disagreement rose up between him and Ashara on the nature of their task and how to handle the guards, as well as addressing whether they should collect the shrine in the tavern. Ashara felt no need to address the guards unless they were forced to and said that she wanted nothing to do with the shrine, and would in fact leave the group if they attempted to collect it.   Embra stepped away to collect the evidence, though doing so in secret do to Ashara's complaints. Nothing beyond the shrine was found, she secretly collected the shrines remains, hefted her bag, and returned to the front.   Much to Ish Ma'el's worry, a couple of guards did approach, curious about the man bound next to their wagon. He produced the Seal of the King, which sufficed for the guards, who simply wandered off, not wanting to be involved with any orders of the High King. Mathias snapped from his stupor shortly after, beginning the series of questions, led by Ish Ma'el under threat of death by Ashara.   Mathias, not wanting to die, tells them that he learned of his new god when "The Prophet" appeared. He spoke only to a woman he called Sayer Seina after his initial meeting with The Prophet. In exchange for the help that that his new religious group offered, he was asked to send those lost in their faith to the Dead Zone known as The Shatters, where a new temple was built, and if any that are strong of body and share the faith arrive, to send them to Benira. He claimed to know nothing else. As they continued their questions, they found the name of the leader of the Temple in The Shatters to be Sayer Bayasha, but no new information beyond this.   Feeling content, Ish Ma'el told Ashara that she could have him. Begging for his life, Mathias was ultimately ignored as Ashara cast Ethereal Chains, with the chains tethered to the overhang of the bulding above, Ashara pinned his body and pulled the chains short until his head ripped from his body.   With the man dead, the group entered the building, looting what they could find as the patrons ran away. Once satisfied, they burned it down, collecting their wagon and horse and moving down the street.

Faith in the Temples

Ish Ma'el wished to speak to the guards of the city in order to get assistance before heading into The Shatters. Another argument rises between him and Ashara, with most of the group disapproving of meeting the guards but not seeming to care if they do. Ultimately, Ish Ma'el gets his way, but not without discontent in the group.   Quickly locating a guard shack on the corner of the Reclamation District, Swan District, and The Shatters, Ish Ma'el meets the captain and requests that they provide aid. When the Captain denies it, saying they are stretched too thin to offer any help, Ish Ma'el tries leveraging the Seal of the King. When this fails, they settle with being allowed to tether their horse at the shack while they head into the deadzone. As they leave, they ask the guard outside for directions to the nearest temple. He points them to one and is gifted a blowdart by Ashara.   Finding the temple, they each go inside and offer their prayers. Ashara prays to Gavathrak, receiving a private response, Ish Ma'el to Bom feeling no response, and Victalyasa prays to each in quick succession.   Embra, with the shrine still secretly in her bag, opts to visit with the priest while her companions pray. Stepping into the small office where the priest resided, she asked if he could help her identify something she found. She opened her bag and let him look. As he sorted the pieces, in disgust and shock, he seemed to know what they resembled. Before any answers could be given, Ashara kicked in the door, worried about Embra. Embra, in response, secretly pulled the pieces back into her bag and asked the priest where she could "sell the goods". The priest, realizing Embra was hiding it from her companions, simply responded with "In the Western Waters".   Collecting themselves, the group decided to head into The Shatters. Though eerie, it took several minutes before anything happened, with the crew largely following Ashara and Embra on choosing where to go to find a single Temple in the large, desolate district. On approach of one intersection, Victalyasa heard the distinct sound of trouble in the form of a steamy hiss and groaning metal. Embra, sneaking up toward the source, was caught off-guard as a piece of Animated Armor and a Steam Mephit attacked them.   The fight, though not particularly difficult, did wear on the group, as Embra took several heavy hits, and Ashara received a blow that knocked her arms out of socket. Despite the wounds, the groups lethal power obliterated any resistance, killing the armor, the initial mephit, and a second that showed moments later. Not knowing what waited at the temple, the PCs decided to take a short rest, bandaging their wounds, and giving Ashara the reuse of her runes. As they healed, Embra, while walking the room, managed to find an old and worn chest with a few marks inside.   Waiting outside, Victalyasa spotted a few creatures shambling almost drunkenly down the aisle way toward them. Not wishing to get into another fight, the group collects themselves and follows Ashara's lead toward the Temple Mathias spoke of. As they approached, the group collectively see through the large windows a mostly full congregation with a priest standing at the head.   Here, the session closed due to timing. The next scheduled session will be delayed a week due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
