Embodied Gods in Cycles of Infinity | World Anvil

Embodied Gods

The fourteen original spirits that have become known as gods were the first beings created. The awoke hungry and consumed their very mother and were punished by being confined to the known existence . Since that time, they have been further repressed by the guardians that have been placed to keep them within the realm and by their own creations; life. Their influence is limited to places and things that have been sanctified in their name. These are known as Embodied Shrines when places are sanctified, and The Embodied when an object or being is such.

Worship

The Embodied Gods have their influence wrapped around the whole cosmos. In any place, at any time, a person may be touched by the Embodied Gods. General worship is done by lip service and personal offerings. No formal religions have formed around the gods, but many of the most devout will join one of the numerous organizations devoted to their specific gods.   For most, a temple to one or more of the Embodied gods will act as their primary conduit of worship when they wish for a stronger connection. Those with more faith but are not of the priestly nature may have a shrine at home.   Depending on the nature of the organization that is caring for the temple, certain gods may take priority. Most followers will stop by these temples to give thanks and offer prayers to the gods at their shrines within the temples. D&D 5e D&D 5e

Divine Casters

Prayer with one's holy symbol is the only act deemed necessary for the embodied gods to grant spells to the caster. Each act does count as praying to the god however, and will generally be met by rolling to see if the god responds. If a prayer succeeds during this time, the god will generally evaluate the PC and give a boon or curse based on their assessment. The PC may or may or may not see their divine benefactor, only experienceing their approval or disdain.   From time to time, the god may demand some for of additinal fealty through action, though this isn't particularly common for most of the gods.

Non-Divine, Devout Characters

Players who are not divine spellcasters but do exhibit strong devotion can benefit in many of the ways as a divine spellcaster, including the woes. Daily prayer can still grant a boon or curse, the form being granted by the DM.
