The Forgotten God Character in Cycles of Infinity | World Anvil

The Forgotten God

Some scholars believe that The Forgotten God is simply a story to explain Inuhr the Cannibal and why he exists. Some scholars believe the stories that have been shared are truth spread to all. Assuming the stories are true, The Forgotten God is condemned to whatever afterlife that the immortals have when their beings are consumed, if such a place exists.   The lore on the Forgotten God is minimal, giving no indication on what she was like or what she could have done for the mortals of the world has she lived. She consumed no parts of her mother, leaving her to be the truest form of what the gods could have been.

Description

The Forgotten God was born innocent, and couldn't bring herself to eat the mother she came from. She sat in horror at what she saw, her siblings eating the body of she who birthed them, and cried in pain. Inuhr, astonished and paralyzed with choice, missed out on the feast when their mother woke from her slumber and turned on her new children. Not wanting to go without a meal at all, Inuhr turned towards The Forgotten God and ate her in a single bite.   Some believe the spirit of The Forgotten God was able to flee, leaving her body to be consumed by the Void that is Inuhr. Others believe that this is simply wishful hoping and an attempt to preserve the possibility of total annihilation. Whatever the truth, people pay homage in her memory, hoping that the power of prayer may bring her back.   A small set of people believe that The Forgotten God is back, but is weak and ephemeral in the world. They see her as a benign good that helps people fight against the small demons in their lives. These people often give a little more than simple prayers to The Forgotten God, offering small bounties that well maintained temples will use to keep the shrine in good repair.

Personality

As The Forgotten God is not believed to exist anymore, there is little known of her personality traits. She was believed to be naive and innocent, unaware that Inuhr would betray her so quickly. The fact that she didn't take any bites from her mother lead many to believe she would have been the ultimate good in the gods, a being to true benevolence.

Shrines and Temples

A small obelisk, often of white stone, looking somewhat like a tombstone. This shrine often has a jewel placed on the front, towards the bottom, but more rural temples may just have a simple design carved into it.
Embodied temples will have a shrine to The Forgotten God, but it often sits in a darkened corner, nearly forgotten about. Most people will walk over and give a quick and silent prayer to it, but the general attention is significantly diminished, seeing only a bit more attention than the more evil gods, but far less care, as no one fears being in poor standing with her.

Worship in the Setting

No one really worships The Forgotten God with a true sense of faith. A few will prayer to her as a sort of agnostic approach to life, looking for good will but not wanting actual divine intervention. Once in a lifetime, these people will seem to get a response, a whisper of fortune so small that it could be chalked up to astonishing luck, but too great to think there were no outside forces responsible for it. In these moments, one begins to question if The Forgotten God still exists.
