Honeyhive

Honeyhive is the seat of House Bumbleford in the Meadows. Their lands lie hard upon the Goldlands’ border, a boon to trade and a source of no small envy amongst their neighbors. Of all the houses in the northern Meadows, none command such strength as the Bumblefords, whose banners are followed by a score of lesser vassals—House Nettlevein, House Hollowood, House Loreflower, and the dour House Hemlocke.   Honeyhive’s renown and gold were not made through sword and spear, but through its honeywine. Sweet, golden, and flavorful, the vintage wines of Honeyhive are prized in the courts from the Farsouth to the Everwinter. Lords and ladies across the realm clamor for Honeyhive’s exports and many have stake in Honeyhive’s many vineyards and apiaries.

History

In years before the coming of House Tandor’thal, the northern reaches of the Meadows were the demesne of scattered clans of wood elves, who kept to their groves and glades and suffered little intrusion from without. They lived apart, shunning lordship and levy, until the coming of Vy’shera’s Conquest. During Vy’shera’s Conquest, many would keep to their ways, remaining hidden in the forest until House Ebonlight, a family of wood elves, would claim the seat of Eldenmurrow and proclaim themselves the Paramount House of the Meadows. The northern houses would support the Ebonlight’s ascent and be loyal to them, even unto the days of Raheavor’s Rebellion.   When Vy’shera had taken to rule the realm, the humans of the Goldlands would begin to migrate south towards the Meadows and capitalize on the natural abundance of food. Among them were the founders of House Bumbleford, whose singular gift lay not in sword nor song, but in the tending of bees. So deft were their hands that honey soon flowed from their hives in golden rivers, and their fame spread. Vineyards and orchards followed, until the very hills of Honeyhive seemed drunk on sweetness.   Eventually, the wood elven clans in the forest would press the humans to leave their territory. The Bumblefords, however, chose peace where others would have chosen war. Through marriage and bargain, feast and festival, they bound the woodland clans to them. The Bumblefords possessed a knack for diplomacy which would land many in the role of Master of Laws for the Paramount House.   When the current king, Raheavor II, rebelled to fight a claimant war against his treasonous sister, House Ebonlight would not fight at his side. Honeyhive, too, cast their lot with the pretender queen, Vey’orin Hydreaon. Yet when the war was won, the king’s justice proved gentler than his sword. King Raheavor, alongside the new Paramounts, House Borsmount, slew the Ebonlights until extinction, but the Bumblefords were spared their lands, excused as simple folk, more apt for hive and harvest than for helm and chainmail. Despite these losses, the honeywine still flows at the feasts of those richer and more well-connected.
