Lordship

A lordship is the third rank of government. Comparable to a duchy, the lords and ladies who own a lordship are the direct vassals of the lord paramounts. Their vassals are the owners of baronies.

Qualifications

Most lordships have belonged to certain noble families for hundreds of years passed down to the eldest child, regardless of gender. Most heirs are trained to manage their future estates.

Duties

The lords and ladies of a lordship must manage their estates, trade, lead the shire courts, and manage the nobility beneath them. The most important job of the lordships are to act as adjudicators for the lesser lords, all of the lesser lords in a lordship report to their respective lord/lady. As a result, the owner of a lordship must settle all disputes within their territory and prevent petty feuds. They also manage trade within their territory.   Each lordship must also give a percentage of their income and troops to their Lord Paramount.
