Plank & Chisel
The Plank & Chisel is a warm, rustic carpentry shop in the heart of Minroe, a place where the scent of freshly cut wood mingles with the faint aroma of pine resin and beeswax. The shop is a testament to the craftsmanship of its owner, Tharwin Oakshade, and serves as both a workspace and a display of his skill.
The Plank & Chisel has a welcoming, lived-in feel. Sunlight streams in through the windows, highlighting the grain of the wood and the fine dust floating in the air. The soft sound of sawing and hammering echoes through the shop, accompanied by the occasional hum of a tune from Tharwin. Customers feel both the warmth of the shop’s atmosphere and the weight of its owner’s dedication to his craft.
Interior
The shop interior is a blend of functionality and beauty, reflecting Tharwin's dual focus on practicality and artistry.
Main Workshop (Ground Floor)
- Workbenches: Several long workbenches run the length of the room, each cluttered with tools like chisels, planes, and mallets. Scraps of wood and sawdust scatter across the surfaces, evidence of constant activity.
- Storage: Shelves line the walls, holding jars of nails, screws, and clamps, alongside carefully labeled containers of varnish, oils, and stains.
- Tools: A rack displays masterfully maintained tools, some of which are of elven design, gifted to Tharwin by his estranged sister.
- Display Corner: Near the front of the shop, finished pieces are displayed on a polished counter—delicate wooden boxes, sturdy chairs, and even carved walking sticks.
Wood Storage (Back Room)
- Logs and Planks: Stacks of wood are neatly organized by type and quality, ranging from common oak and pine to rare ironwood and darkwood.
- Kiln: A small wood-drying kiln hums quietly in the corner, used to prepare materials for carving.
Hidden Workshop (Basement)
- Secret Entrance: Behind a sliding panel, a staircase leads down to a secret workspace.
- Experimental Projects: Here, Tharwin works on enchanted or mechanical designs, from secret compartments in furniture to magical locks.
Second Floor (Living Quarters)
- Residence: Above the shop is Tharwin’s modest living space, featuring handcrafted furniture and personal keepsakes. A large window overlooks the town, offering inspiration for his designs.
Carved Pillar: A central pillar in the shop is covered with years of carved marks from past apprentices and customers, who add small symbols or initials as a tradition.
Client Wall: A board near the entrance lists names of satisfied customers, including local nobles and adventurers who commissioned unique items.
Rare Items Shelf: A locked cabinet displays rare or magical wooden items, such as a miniature enchanted music box or a walking stick with concealed compartments.
