Razorblade Reef

The twisting, maze-like, lethal archipelago that serves as a home for all manner of seafarers

Geography

The geography of Razorblade Reef is a highly deadly thing that is full of immense wonder and natural beauty, and is typified by its numerous and towering rocky spires that jut out of the ocean at irregular angles with rocky edges so terrifyingly sharp that they alone are responsible for giving the area its epithet. More dangerous here, however, is that you don't see, and that which doesn't quite pierce the water's surface...as any sailor worth his salt or who has been sailing "The Razors" long enough will tell you, the spires and rocky outcroppings that decorate the waters beneath the surface are the most deadly by far. They often come just close enough to the surface to shred the underside of any ship foolish enough to sail over top them, with some even being so sharp as to slice through solid metal...spires that relics of a truly ancient calamity which sundered the once-intact continent The Reef once was...or so some believe.   So dangerous are these spires both above and beneath the waves that to successfully navigate them is by no means a simple task...indeed, it is one that often cannot be done without assistance and with maps. Not even the most experienced of sailors who have centuries beneath their belts can navigate Razorblade Reef without assistance...and it is this fact which has allowed The Mutiny and all the sailors which dwell here to survive for as long as they have. Here, maps are the foremost commodity, and are often monopolized by The Mutiny to ensure their own continued independence...for the knowledge of the safe routes through Razorblade Reef are more than worth their weight in solid platinum.   Besides this danger, Razorblade Reef is a beautiful place that lacks many large islands, but nonetheless has hundreds of landmasses large and small located all across it...hidden by the deadly Razors that ensure those that live there seldom have company.

Fauna & Flora

The Flora that lives within Razorblade Reef is thankfully the least dangerous thing in the area...all manner of seaweed and other aquatic flora are present here, and if the tales of particularly daring divers are to be believed, great coral reefs full of natural splendor and sealife decorate the seafloor beneath the Reef itself. On the islands themselves that are located within the Reef, flora such as great Palm Trees are common, as are thick jungle and tropical vegetation.   Compounding the dangers of Razorblade Reef, however, is the deadly fauna which calls it home. Dwelling within the waters here are manner of sea creatures and sea monsters...from deadly sharks, Sahuagin, Warmongering Sea Elves who are infamous for ambushing ships sailing the Reef during the night and pulling them over into the water, sinking them down to butcher the crew and plunder the ship for themselves...legends abound of Krakens and even a terrifying Scylla lurking within the most secluded and lethal areas of the reef, as well. This only makes the maps kept by The Mutiny and those who live within The Reef all the more valuable...for they also show which routes are not only free of Razors, but also free of the area's denizens or monstrous creatures.

Natural Resources

Razorblade is quite full of natural resources, from the Palm Trees and Jungles that dot its larger islands, the fish and coral reefs that line the water's depths, or even the deadly Sea Monsters...all here is valuable, but Razorblade Reef is most well known for its lumber. The lumber produced within it and harvested by its denizens and those of The Mutiny are so legendarily durable and desirable for ships that it is sold and traded at high prices then shipped all over the world.
