Illithid
The Illithid are a hivemind race that followed a species they wished to subjugate, the Vedalken, onto Collatus from deep space. They follow the commands of the Elder Brain who has set the HiveMind's sights on Collatus as their next target. The magic of Collatus however, has tampered with their spacecraft, making them inoperable as soon as they enter the planet's atmosphere. This has left them stranded here, where they attempt to find, not just a way to their mothership, but to use the power of the planet for their own malicious intent.
Structure
The Illithid are a hive-mind society that follows the orders of its Elder Brain as if the thoughts were their own.
Culture
Illithid culture is viciously efficient, and wants all other races to be as efficient as them. The whole society surrounds gathering knowledge by feeding, and conquering weaker groups.

History
The Illithid Empire predates the memory of some of the oldest specimen in the universe. Even the most advanced races like the Vedalken and Githzerai remember nothing more than them coming from deep space. The Githzerai met their match when their original home planet was invaded by the horrid creatures, and had it renamed Illith to break the creatures.
After the Githzerai had been forced to flee Illith, they became Nomads throughout deep space, and in the Illithid's feverous pursuit of their people, they stumbled into the galaxy Collatus exists within. This led them to Vedal, a planet of psionic powered advanced aliens. They began their plague on their planet and eventually brought it to its knees. The Vedalken sent 6 refugee ships to Collatus, the nearest inhabitants planet, and the Elder Brain and its Illithid followers pursued to Collatus and their ships shut down, leaving their main swarm stranded.
