Choral the Conqueror

Originally created by Paizo

Choral Rogarvia (a.k.a. The Conqueror)

Choral, usually known as Choral the Conqueror is certainly a force to reckon with in modern-day Iobaria. He was born for ruling over this country: he has a knack for bringing people together, people of different creed, walks of life, races, ... In a warrior state like Iobaria, he is what men and women aspire to be: headstrong, decisive, powerful, knows his strengths and his weaknesses, ready to listen to others when he knows he's less of a man...   While one would expect that for a king of Iobaria, he not only stirred his warlords to keep them on track and worked on growing Iobaria from the inside: a few years ago, he set his sights on nearby regions of Rostland and Issia, ready to beat the drums of war, ready to use his long standing alliance with the dragons of Iobaria, including the The Council of Timeless Dawn.   Ever since the fall of Issia and Rostland, Choral the Conqueror has been more distant with the lords in New Iobaria.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Choral has been mocked, in the past, for being smaller and "prettier" than most Ulfen men. Luckily, he's managed to make the best out of these traits over the years, learning when not to appear threatening and when to do so. Battle-worn, his body is covered in scars, each telling a story, but he's still in relatively good shape for a man in his mid-forties, an age which claims the life of many Ulfens.

Body Features

Pale when in the city, tan in campaign, long blond hair, imposing presence regardless of his age or status

Facial Features

Lidded eyes (alike the Tian) a large, well-kept beard, scars near his eye, expressive face

Identifying Characteristics

His streak of white hair

Physical quirks

He has a strong, imposing posture, but over the years, he's become less so; he is right handed but can kill with either hand; usually rest his hand on his weapon, always ready to strike; often high-strung

Special abilities

It's known that he can cast a few spells, but Choral rarely feels the need to do so

Apparel & Accessories

He usually wears a medium armor mead of leather, cloth, and metal, a fur-lined cloak; his only accessories are weapons, including a sword he never uses (which belonged to his mother) and a single necklace with a green gem; while he is undoubtedly a lord, he does not put his wealth or status on display

Specialized Equipment

He usually carries two swords, and a few axes, wears an armor, and has a pouch for spell components; he has a war horn, and a horn flute at his side.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Choral was born to a strong, powerful clan leader of Antoll. He grew up with his mother and sister, and he never knew who is father was and never cared to know, for his mother and the other warriors of his clans was all the family he ever needed. A bright student from a young age, he distinguished himself by being just "better," having this je-ne-sais-quoi that gave him an edge every single time. Some people suggest that he was bolstered by lady luck herself, others thought that his rapid ascension to the throne was destiny.   He left his clan with only a handful of warriors to visit his land to be when he was 15. He made a name for himself all over the place, even among the Drakhen, Hobgoblins and the Centaur. In truth, his biggest feat was to call upon the aid of the dragon population. Once he returned to Antoll, he was celebrated a hero for stopping the attacks for Galvanx, a white dragon terrorizing the northern lands, and a plan to conquer the lands west of New Iobaria, who still attack every few months the villages scattered along the coast.   Choral Rogarvia became known as Choral the Conqueror when he stuck a deal with the ruler of Issia, making them surrender to New Iobaria, and annexed Iobaria through sheer force, with the support of his dragon allies. Since then, he's been sitting on the Dragonscale Throne, in Issia, and has been a bit distant.

Education

He is well traveled and studied with the most knowledgeable and the very best he could find for any given field of interest

Employment

He's the current ruler of New Iobaria, when he tossed his name for consideration, he was almost immediately accepted

Accomplishments & Achievements

Defeating Galvanx, putting back the centaurs in line, stirring his warriors so they would work together again, striking a deal with dragons, conquering Issia and Rostland

Failures & Embarrassments

Thus far, he's had very few failures or embarrassments

Morality & Philosophy

"Do what you must at all cost" is what defines his life. The costs, however, are usually to himself: he does not put the weight on others. He is trying to be the best man he can be, even if that means stirring envy, jealousy or even hatred. He believes in courage, but also being tempered when needed. Thinking a certain amount of cowardice can be a lifesaver. Just as Choral expects the best of himself, he expects the best of anyone he deals with on a daily basis, and that makes him, sometimes, ruthless.   While Choral does not discuss religion or morality, he is a very secretive disciple of Irori, which is something he shares with Cithephaer.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Choral is not the first to set his sights on other countries since the creation of Iobaria. More cunning and definitely smarter than most, he knew where to find the support he needed. Once this man makes his mind, he will be relentless in achieving his goals, but he is not a mindless, brutal beasts (which several rulers of New Iobaria have been accused of being): He'll surround himself with the people who can support him, lay out carefully crafted plans, using his mind just as much as his muscle, or his army.   He fights for the well of New Iobaria, like a mad man, one would think that he knows something about what's to come and that he's fighting a losing battle with himself.

Likes & Dislikes

Like many Ulfen, he is a fan of the arts, especially music, but anything that makes his blood boil and makes him feel alive is something he will like: challenges, battles, food, music, etc.

Virtues & Personality perks

Courageous, well-rounded, very intelligent, driven

Vices & Personality flaws

Temperamental, oblivious to personal suffering

Hygiene

As a lord, Choral the Conqueror makes an effort to present well at all times

Social

Contacts & Relations

He is friends with Nymryrriel but has contacts in most tribes (humans or not), even in other countries.

Family Ties

His mother passed away a few years past, his sister Arnka Rogarvia, still lives in the outskirts of Antoll where she rules a small clan. They have relatively few contacts.   Choral has married Myrna Surtova as part of an agreement with the ruler of Issia. She has birthed him a son, so far, name Iklai Rogarvia.

Religious Views

He is a worshipper of Irori, but does not put this on display.

Social Aptitude

He is charismatic, confident, loud at times, takes a lot of space, can be intimidating

Wealth & Financial state

As the ruler of New Iobaria, the lord of Antoll, Choral the Conqueror is quite rich but his wealth is displayed in food for his people, cattle, strong walls... He has few magical relics passed down from his family or acquired from his friends, he also understand the value of gold, precious metals, and gems, but he does not put them on display, so it's difficult to say just how rich the New Iobarian king really is.
