House Parlent
House Parlent is the royal house of Eronus. The third royal generation Parlent, King Lucius Parlent, is currently sitting on the throne, and he is the second Parlent to sit it.
History
The Parlent family has been a major noble house for a few centuries.
In Borde Roux, freemen had taken the pass to the Plains of Catavio, cutting off easy access to the east, and so the siege of Incantia began. The Riverlords were camped in Incantia Hills (now known as Broken Hills) northwest of the city, in safe distance from their spellcasters. A laxness came upon the camp, Incantia was out of food, it was a matter of time before a surrender had to come.
What the lords had missed, was that the soldiers at Karn's Nest had managed to buy passage through Mount Morndin from the dwarves. Two battalions swooped in, managing to take an undefended Floral on the way. Now the Riverlords were the ones with no supply line, and enemy forces on both sides; things were looking dire. In the Battle in the Broken Hills everything changed however. A massive magical explosion, believed to be a divine intervention, killed thousands that day only a few hours into the battle. Both sides took massive casualties, but the losses were far greater on the side of the Dawnspeakers who lost their entire magical cadre, enabling the easy slaughter of their troops afterwards. The explosion is now known as The Calamity, and it also killed Duke Rolan Fairweather leaving only King Carial Parlent to wear the new crown.
The stories of how the Dawnspeakers had siphoned power magically from their citizens still set their marks, so Carial banned the use of magic entirely, except by state authorized magicians. To oversee these, The Magistrate was formed, which again was controlled by Carial's own sorcerer Matteus Candentes.
From being the "fish lords" to regional supremacy
In year 253 the previous regional capital of the southern Riverlands, Harrendom, was consumed in the destruction wrought by the eruption of Mount Morndin. The entire noble house ruling Harrendom died with the city as well as several hundreds others. The Parlents at the time acted quickly, and while other regional houses were shocked into hesitation, the Parlen't mobilized all fishermen of their fief to block the river, making it impossible for other regions to sail further into the country from the ocean than Floral. The blockade only lasted a week, before the other small fief-lords along the river managed to force it open, but at this time the effect was already solidified. For a week, tradeships had offloaded their goods in small Floral, and bought new goods in the same town. With the old trade capital of the Riverlands in smoldering ruins, Floral was established as the new go to trade city. Other bigger fieflings did their best to convince the traders that their river towns were better suited, but to no avail. Floral grew rapidly, leading to the city it is today. As it became clear that the hold house would not rise again, House Parlent were eventually made to be the dukes of the Southern Riverlands.Rebellion against the Dawnspeakers
In 24 BP the old duke Parlent died, leaving his young son Carial Parlent titles and lands. As faith would have it, only a year before, a young Duke Rolan Fairweather has taken his fathers seat in the northern riverlands. The two of them had met at many parties at various courts before that, and spent hours talking politics over a mug of beer. Both of similar age, both passionately against the Dawnspeakers, and what they saw as a distortion of societies order. Over time, they would also theorize on how the Dawnspeakers secretly siphoned power from their people for malicious religious traits. The latter conspiracy is what really took a hold of the people, especially in the Riverlands and in Borde Roux. The Dawnspeakers went from beloved to mistrusted in a mere year, and the Riverlords gathered under the rose and the fish banner of House Fairweather and House Parlent. The two young dukes would eventually have children, who from childbirth were betrothed to one another to seal the alliance. The intent was a shared crown untill this union of firstborns would take the throne and their offspring forever rule Eronus. Events would unfold differently. The war unfolding
At first the wars were successful. Very quickly, utilizing the element of surprise, the rebellion managed to free all the Riverlands from Dawnspeakers and their soldiers. This also meant cutting off the capital from their main source of food import. This was in part made possible because Carial somehow managed to get the allegiance of a young but powerful sorcerer from the homelands of the Dawnspeakers, Matteus Candentes. He proved resourceful in gathering a cadre of spellcasters of significant power, eager to advance their position in Eronus. In Borde Roux, freemen had taken the pass to the Plains of Catavio, cutting off easy access to the east, and so the siege of Incantia began. King Carial's reign
Carial Parlent ruled till his death in year 38 where he died of old age. His rule was known to be strict and firm, getting the nickname "The no-mercy king"; but he was also fair and in general the lands saw better times than it had for a long time. The nobility's rule in their fiefs and dukedoms grew firmer, and they no longer had to succumb to the oversight of Dawnspeakers; not all found this positive, but it did increase efficiency of workers and trade. The stories of how the Dawnspeakers had siphoned power magically from their citizens still set their marks, so Carial banned the use of magic entirely, except by state authorized magicians. The murder of Prince Floren
Crown prince Floren was murdered a few days after his dad, the Kings death, and a few days before his own coronation. He was found with a knife in his back, lying in a puddle of blood in his bed. The murder is widely believed to have been conducted by The Masked Council, whose power and influence Floren had openly opposed as prince. Floren Parlent left his wife, daughter of Duke Rolan Fairweather and his son, now king King Lucius Parlent.Reign of King Lucius Parlent
