The Calamity

A magical explosion at Broken Hills during the rebellion, killing countless from both sides, including one of the rebellion leaders, Duke Rolan Fairweather. The explosion is said to be the intervention of gods unhappy with the war, wanting the madness to stop; as it did shortly after, having turned the tide in the rebels' favour.    The truth is that Matteus Candentes had recently discovered how to draw magic from others as they died. Using highly advanced magics, he made a spell that in the future will be known as The Uncontrollable Chain of Candentes. After casting the spell, the power of a spellcaster he killed was drawn and fired at another enemy spellcaster, which then again fired at a third. What Matteus Candentes failed to predict was how the spell would target even those with passive magical talent, and how fast it would work. Often a spellcaster holds more energy than what is needed to kill one, and so the excess energy would expend itself in violent explosions, causing a chain of rampant magical explosion.   When later investigated, the long chain of magic that happened made it difficult to trace the exact events; which is why divine intervention was made to be the cause.
