The Battle of Caleah

The Battle of Caleah was a minor military conflict that took place in the Forest of Caleah, in County Ellis, Lysandus. It was part of the larger Battle of the Silver River campaign under King Aethel Ebenwald. To this day, it's remains can be found.

The Conflict

Prelude

The forest of Caleah became the target of Dwarven troops as they began to build a small stone and wooden fortification when sneaking into Lysandus and gaining more control of the Silver River. However, Lysandan foresters and spies found the fortification and reported it back to King Aethel Ebenwald. King Aethel was concerned for it's proximity to Feller's Rock and thus ordered it to be destroyed.

Deployment

Aethel sent General Silgur Woodworth with a regiment to create siege on the fort to protect Feller's Rock and Silver Town. Meanwhile, the Dwarven troops began to strengthen their position once they realized that the Lysandans had found them.

Battlefield

The main battlefield was a region in the Caleah forest named Feyground. The field of Feyground was a spiritual and sacred place in Lisanrik. It was a place where many Dwarves and Men alike could contact the magical aspect of the fey. These fields served as a main battlefield for the Dwarf and Human regiments.

Conditions

On those days it was reported to be lightly cloudy to clear skies. Thus, the battlefield remained mostly dry.

The Engagement

The Lysandan regiment proceeded to move through the woods of Caleah with the foresters as a guide. They decided to take two fronts in order to surround the Dwarven fortification. The front side consisted of little parts of the army yet was headed by General Woodsworth. The back had more forces, hoping the Dwarves would be distracted by the presence of the general. Their bluff worked, leaving the Dwarves to fight on two fronts. They were overtaken by the third day of battle and the Lysandans stormed the fortress. They killed every dwarf in the building and looted their armory. However, they would proceed to bury the Dwarves instead of entomb them.

Outcome

Lysandus successfully brought destruction to the Dwarven fortification and used it to push the Dwarves away from the forest of Caleah to protect Silver Town and Feller's Rock.

Aftermath

The Dwarves never again touched Caleah and were forced back into Boldurun's side of the river.

Historical Significance

Legacy

The forest became cursed with the souls of dead Dwarves who were not buried in tombs, thus leaving them to persist in the wilds. The burial grounds became marked so that rangers and other forest-dwelling men would not come near them, less they be attacked by relentless souls. It has been kept alone by the citizens of Lysandus ever since.
