Natalia III

Natalia III was the Queen of Icenglav from 5650 until her death in 5715. She was a powerful wizard, using the Crown of the Ice Wizard to control the weather of Icenglav.

History

Early Life

Natalia Korolva III was born in 1A 5643, being the daughter of King Nicolai VIII and Queen Kristina. She turned out to be an only child, as King Nicolai, despite his sorcery, would die of a great plague that swept the land. At the age of 7, in the year 5650, she became the Queen of Icenglav. However, her mother Kristina did much of the governing until Natalia was 16 years old.   Out of diplomatic interests, she married the Duke of Kalterfels, named Wilhelm, in 5665 (at age 22) and thus strengthened the ties between Icenglav and Danen. She would evidently be met with a crisis between Danen and Lysandus two years later, as King Eric of Lysandus declared a crusade against Danen. Duke Wilhelm was forced to go to war, while Natalia remained at Icenglav, to govern alone. At home, she dealt with a small dragonborn uprising and quashed it. She also handled a trade situation between Goth and Icenglav.   Bad news would come to Queen Natalia. Wilhelm fell in battle in the year 5672, and Natalia had no apparent biological children. A crisis overcame her, as the city needed the strength of Icenglav backing it diplomatically. Natalia turned to the Crown of the Ice Wizards to gain knowledge from her forefathers. They revealed she could stage a false tale of having a child with Duke Wilhelm and use magic to alter an adopted child. Though Natalia felt uneasy about the prospect, she listened to the wisdom of her forefathers and adopted an infant daughter in secret. She used her magic to give her daughter new traits, and named her Natalia as well. Thus, the crisis was averted by a lie.   However, Queen Natalia saw after affects of tampering her daughter via magic in 5672. The Princess grew out of control with magical ability. Queen Natalia had to juggle raising her daughter with magical powers as well as dealing with the end results of the Gothai Crusade. The crusade would end in 5676, and Icenglav came to a time of peace once again. However, Queen Natalia's struggles did not end, as the court started to spread rumors about the princess.

Will of the Dragonlords

In 5689, Icenglav came under attack by a horde of dragons, inspired by Qenlynn Millerstone in Lysandus. They tried to usurp control of Icenglav, but Queen Natalia III used her power over the winds to push them away and protect the Confederation of Gothai. At the same time, Natalia III would end up denouncing the Danen King, King Hans, for furthered aggression toward Lysandus after the Gothai Crusade was over. As such, the connection between Turm Kalterfels and Icenglav weakened, and Queen Natalia realized her deception was beginning to cause things to crumble.

A Curse over Gothai

A decade later, the aging Queen oversaw the preparations of Winterball for the turn of the century. However, the relationship between Queen Natalia and her daughter improved, with the princess finally gaining control of her powers. Queen Natalia began preparations for the greatest Winterball celebration of her reign, considering it was the turn of the century. However, this would be interrupted. A dragon, named Gorgek, attacked Fenebach and captured the Princess. Ungruld, a necromancer, shot Queen Natalia with a cursed spell that could not be lifted.   Now starting to die, she would be approached by three adventurers: Charles Mane, Saphira, and Aldric Gemcutter. Being heroes of Bardinca, Queen Natalia entrusted them with a mission to save the princess and stop Ungruld before he could unleash Koschei. She soon came to her deathbed on December 18th of 5699 and passed away due to Ungruld's magic. Yet the cleric Saphira was fast enough to revive her, and the Queen was thankful for her interference. Now one problem remained: her crown was missing. The heroes retrived the crown from a vile red dragon underneath the city, and recovered it for the queen. Thus, Winterball was allowed to continue, as she knighted the heroes, calling themselves the Winter Tribunal, for their bravery.

End of her Reign

As the new century of 5700 turned around, the wintry queen, now 57 years old, began to assist the aging King Mortimer of Lysandus in purging the remnants of the orcs away from their lands, driving them back to the Danen Lands. She also prepared her daughter Durkavna to take the throne. It was relatively peaceful during her rule, though she worried that the Winterstones being left in the hands of the Winter Tribunal would lead to further disturbance of the balance of winter. But alas, nothing came to light.   One final thing had to be addressed: as her daughter, Durkcavna, was looking for a husband, it shocked the nation that the princess wished to marry a dragonborn duke, named Xylath Borisovich. Many believed it would soil the royal bloodline. Many dragonborn in the nation, however, praised the development. To the dismay of the nation, Queen Natalia III revealed that her precious daughter was adopted. Durkcavna was revealed to be a dragonborn. The nobles of Icenglav were enraged by the deception, and many proposed that a new heir to the throne should take the crown instead. A civil war broke out in the year 5710, between dragonborn and humans within the region. Eventually, the dragonborn faction overcame the human nobles, killing many of them and forcing the Queen to recognize that Icenglav would be a Dragonborn state, no longer one of men. Queen Natalia looked into her Crown of the Ice King for the guidance of her ancestors.
Her ancestors debated the matter, but all of them decided that it would be a time for change within the lands of Icenglav. Too long there had been many tyrannical Ice Kings that oppressed the Dragonborn from their original homeland. The uniting of Princess Durkavna and Dyke Xylath would bring a new age to Icenglav.
Thus, the queen proposed to the dragonborn faction that when she finally died, the first act her daughter must propose is making Icenglav a Dragonborn state. Five years later, after much stress, the queen began to feel the spell that Saphira cast upon her fading away. The stress and days of aging began to show signs of Ungruld's terrible curse again. Then, in the year 5715, she was laid to rest among her forefathers. Her daughter, Princess Durkavna, was declared the Queen of Icenglav.
