Lolth - The Drow Matron

Mother of the Drow Lolth

Lolth was the goddess of spiders and treachery as well as the mother goddess of the dark elves. She is considered the shadow of Brigid by the High Elves, though the Drow consider her the true Brigid.
Is it any surprise the goddess of darkness and treachery chose a spider? Absolutely HATE those things! -Jethro

Myths and History

According to Elven Legend, Lolth appears to be a darker version of Brigid. She was somehow spawned during the Elven War when the High Elves forced the Drow into hiding. Both part of Brigid and the Elves themselves were darkened. Thus spawned Lolth. The Drow were forced into the terrifying Underdark where the loving Lolth protected them. The spiders that threatened them she mastered over. She would give the Drow power over these monsters and show them that the Underdark wasn't doom. Rather, it could be controlled if they were clever. Since that day, Lolth has taken the form of a spider.   The spider form of Lolth has inspired the Dark Elves to become master planners, spinning webs of conspiracy to her liking. Because she was considered a Mother goddess to them, the female drow were upheld in society while the men worked to serve them. This would eventually twist to the point of dominating matriarchy. Lolth liked this development and deemed it her will.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Lolth takes upon the appearance of the Dark Elves, her supposed "children", meaning she has grey skin and white hair. She looks to be a female humanoid in most incarnations. However, this does not stop her from taking on the form of a spider in several occasions, which is one she prefers.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Lolth is determined to bring domination for the Dark Elves to the overworld, or at least restore them beyond the dreariness of the underdark. She gives an elven sense of war and treachery to her children instead of the very human Morganine. In fact, she is rivals with Morganine and wishes her worship to be crushed forever.
Show spoiler
She wants the Elves to see the wonders of the darkness of life and not be afraid of it. In truth the divide between the High Elves and Drow hurt her and now she has been desperately trying to restore what was lost.

History

After the Elves fell for the seduction of Morganine, they warred and divided themselves. The High Elves exiled some of their Drow brethren to the Underdark. There part of Brigid would leave, as she could not abandon her children. As such, Lolth technically is Brigid. She is just a twisted and cruel version of her, embracing the darkness of life. Which is why she considers her lighter self a coward and too gentle. Lolth and Brigid plan on uniting the Elves one day, but that appears impossible at the moment.

History

When Lolth first protected the Drow, she picked the females of the tribe to be the leaders. The Matriarch chosen was believed to be the incarnation of Lolth. The latest Matriarch, Nivara-Lolth, has tried to be obedient to her goddess, but Lolth seems to dislike her service.
