Chapter 8 - Dangers Present

The party initiated a deadly battle with Bartalome el Piadoso, at first being surrounded by an army. However, the remains of the Capricorn landed on much of the army, evening the odds. Bartalome ended up taking down Alexandroth with his hateful smites, however the druid Tursi ended up giving him an ironic end, heating the metal of his armor while being sent to a different plane of existence. Alexandroth would get proper revenge by slitting his throat, ending a decade of vengeance.   After this, the god Maclir appeared to the party, praising them for cleansing Davy Jones' Locker and deemed them "champions" since they defeated the Naga and helped Boadella. He proceeded to take Bartalome's soul and keep it in Davy Jones' Locker. The Champions would receive a request from him to take down Captain Dana Cortez, for he felt her piracy polluted the seas, and requested the party help deal with the Mind Flayers properly. Maclir warned them that he would need to continue holding back Ilsensine, the Kraken, as they went off in their quest.   The party continued down the safer path the original pirates who made the treasure followed. However, they would evidently be stopped by the Mind Flayer Arcanist, Flil, another Mind Flayer and some Umberhulks they were using to dig to the treasure. Ithacus would end up being knocked down and Bogun came under the confusing gaze of the Umberhulks. However, the party prevailed. They would receive one message from Vuggul, who lamented Flil's demise, but told the party they were too late, for they already found the Treasure of Ages. Then, using Umberhulks, they caved in the hallway for the party. Maclir came to them once more, assisting them and telling them they'd need to use a much more dangerous route when they would continue their quest.

Relations

Protagonists

Tursi

Tursi found herself confronting dangerous monsters much more rooted against her, but proved vigilant in battle. She took down Bartalome and fought the Umberhulks bravely. She also was given a chance to see her dead parents by Maclir, who showed her they were living in pleasure at sea forever in Davy Jones, but lamenting how she could only have this one rare glimpse.

Alexandroth Hapsburg

With a battle to the death, Alexandroth attempted to kill Bartalome, yet came short to victory as Bartalome used the powers of smites against him. Verging toward death, Alexandroth held on while Tersi and Brynn rescued him. Then, the years of revenge came to an end as Alexandroth mocked the man and slit his throat. He would end up taking his sword, turning it into a new pact weapon.

Bogun

Using his expertise in gun slinging, Bogun fought the Revenant army with ease. However, he lost his luck when facing the Umberhulks, going into a confusing stupor and accidentally attacking his friends. It was not his best day...

Ithacus

Though Ithacus managed to hold back the Umberhulk for a while, he also came under the might of the creature and was taken down. It was Alexandroth who did the saving this time, using a demon to protect him as he laid unconscious. However, he was gifted some boosts by Maclir, including Maclir's prized bow belonging to his sister Brigid.

Brynn Inkheart

The rogue proved both lucky and clever, using her skills to attack enemies and get great shots at them. She helped Tursi in the heat of the Umberhulk battle. However, her morality was not questioned, and she was one of the first to link Dana to the sinister pirate that Maclir so resented.

Allies

Maclir

Maclir is the god of the sea in Talamh, and became quite interested in the exploits of this adventuring party. He proceeded to deem them as champions and instructed them in delivering Dana and defeating the Mind Flayers. He gifted the party with sips from his Fountain of Youth to heal them, as well as extraordinary weapons.

Neutrals/Bystanders

Dana Bonebreaker

Slowly, the party has begun to realize Dana's ulterior motive: she has been using them to locate the treasure for her and seeks to live forever. Maclir stated he wishes to bring justice to her piracy by bringing her soul to Davy Jones' Locker.

Adversaries

Bartalome el Piadoso

The Oathbreaker finally met justice as he was stopped from finding the Fountain of Youth by the party. He would, ironically, be burned alive (just as he did to people at the stake) for his final blows. As he laid dying, he feared the judgement of the gods, and ultimately his soul was passed to Maclir, who ensured the party that he would be punished for the rest of eternity. Bartalome's soul was strapped to the front of a ship, forever being keelhauled.

Flil the Mindflayer

Flil began using the Umberhulks to dig under the caverns to get to the Treasure of Ages. He attempted to kill the party by silencing them, however he was stopped and then killed by the Champions. His death was lamented by Vuggul.

Vuggul

Vuggul was a Ulitharid leading the Mind Flayer legion. He proceeded to order the Umberhulks to block the way of the party and took from their minds info of Ilsensine. He changed his plans, instead now wanting to awaken Ilsensine.

Backdrops

Locations

The Crystal Rotunda

A small gathering room filled with magical purple crystals, it was the stopping place for Cortez' original pirate group when bring treasure. It became a battleground for the party when they faced Flil.

Encounters

The End of the Oathbreaker

Though the battle got heated for Alexandroth, he was taken down by Bartalome using his power of smiting. Yet, Alexandroth's Banishing Smite took hold on his knock out blow. Along with Tursi's Heat Metal, Bartalome proceeded to be burned and ensnared in a nightmare condition. Meanwhile, Bogun used a safe position to start firing at the Revenant Army, and Ithacus and Brynn fought off the hordes and protected Alexandroth once he fell. Tursi giving the fatal blow to Bartalome proceeded to lift the army and saved the day.

Maclir's Arrival

As the party finished their battle, they got surrounded by Tritons. Miraica, the Seaweed Woman, greeted the party and introduced her husband Maclir to them all. Maclir congratulated the party and was impressed by their work. He proceeded to deem them Champions, and gave them weapons and a sip of the Fountain of Youth to restore their wounds. Promising the Fountain of Youth's nectar, he instructed them to track down Captain Dana for perverting the seas with piracy and to deal with the Mind Flayers. Ithacus took the steps to immediately show the location of Dana to Maclir in order to get the rewards immediately. Maclir agreed and gifted them.

Tursi's Glimpse

Tursi asked Maclir politely if she could see her parents, and Maclir gifted that to her. He led her to the wonderful parts of Davy Jones' Locker, showing her parents lovingly enjoying the brisk spray of the sea on a ship, forever enjoying this afterlife. Maclir lamented that Tursi would need to live as an orphan, and brought up Brigid. He told her to value the moment, for the loss of a loved one would haunt her.

The Hall of the Pirates

At the end of the locker, the Champions came to a hallway inscribed with Thieve's Cant. They were led into a hall filled with crystals and a waterslide. Brynn and Ithacus accidentally slid down the slide while the rest stayed protected. There they saw many crystals in a room. They started hearing tremors.

Battle of the Crystal Rotunda

In a round room filled with crystals, Ithacus started to know the sound of the tremors: they were Umberhulks. He warned the others of this disturbance. Yet, they found themselves confronted by Flil, another Mind Flayer, and three Umberhulks.
  • Ithacus took on one of the Umberhulks, fighting fairly well until the creature knocked him down for the count. He would be protected by Alexandroth.
  • Tursi found herself battling two Umberhulks, using her powerful magic and the use of twin scimitars to defeat the monsters. She would also protect Ithacus with some healing by cleverly manuvering.
  • Using his wit, Alexandroth stopped Flil from casting a dangerous and disabling "Silence" spell with Counterspell. Alexandroth took a more ranged approach with the Umber Hulks, using his Eldritch Blast and summoned demon to fight the monsters. It would turn to be a very good idea, especially against the Mind Flayers.
  • Poor Bogun came under the confusing effects of the Umberhulks, accidentally hitting party members.
  • Brynn also took on the Umberhulks with her dancing sword, and clever usage of stealth attack. Ultimately she would pick off one with a cleverly done stab wound.

Past Events

The Treasure of Ages

Around 15 years ago, a Pirate King and head of the Thieves Guild named Federico Cortez came with a band of pirates to store their treasure in the cavern. He gifted the map to his daughter, Dana, telling her she and her crew would inherit it all. Thus, Dana proceeded to become a pirate and search for the treasure, intent on taking it for herself.
