Chapter 11 - Deep Trouble

General Summary

The party descended upon the Scarlet Scarves in a rush, but communication proved to be futile as Teq's silent spell muted both parties. It erupted into a violent shuffle, with Wulfric slicing off the leg of the local master thief, named Maledict. The party made short work of the rest of the criminals. Slytoff killed the tortured man with a fire bolt. Wulfric managed to capture Maledict and the party questioned the thief, learning they were after a slaver. After questioning, Wulfric used a torture tactic called "blood eagle" and killed Maledict in the name of Morganine.   The party left the establishment, but a guard spotted them bloodied, and asked them what was going on. Slytoff tried to lie, but the guard did not believe him. Wulfric them admitted the party slaughtered Scarlet Scarves. The guard looked into the crime scene, appalled by the blood eagle technique. He erroneously accused Wulfric of being a Danen, an enemy to Lysandus, but Wulfric defended himself as once being a loyal housecarl of Obesfeld. The guard ignored the fact, and arrested Hanna, the owner of the establishment, for her association with the thieves. Wulfric would then steal into her room, taking a nice bear pelts and other furs, as well as weapons.   For the night, the party went to the Han residence, Slytoff's parents. Idelle Han greeted her son and tried to kiss him, but he dodged her grasp. Slytoff would realize his mother, with boxes of essential oils, had bought into a Multi-Level Marketing Scheme. The party stayed the night, and Slytoff got to catch up with his father, Dahb. Dahb Han pretended to be unimpressed with Slytoff's achievements, but Slytoff's showing of his gold excited him. The party took some of the oils of their hands. They ate Idelle's delicious butter muffins. Dahb Han offered to take the party up to Cemedri Magicus, a destination for their quest, since he often delivered food to them.   The party took a few hour journey to Mt. Magus, a semi-active volcano, and entered Cemedri Magicus. They would be greeted by Vice-Mage Warder Payne, happy to see them. Warder took them to the quarters of the Arch-Mage, Imin Aldir, to discuss their business. Master Imin at first dismissed the party, calling them "outsiders", until Warder gave him a reality check about the Black Dragons. Slytoff pestered the Arch-Mage, and Gilliam got the Arch-Mage to speak up. The Arch-Mage confessed he was once Qenlynn Millerstone's master, and that his failure to teach her led to her joining the Black Dragons. He was regretful and thus gave the party orders to enter the Underdark in search for Soul Sand.   Warder Payne gave the party "Spheres of Return" in case they get into further danger. Payne warned the party to be watchful of the Drow, since they do not like surface dwellers. Wulfric bought some healing potions from Warder Payne, and then the party bid farewell. They traveled a mile into the Underdark, it getting deeper and darker every meter they traversed into...

Character(s) interacted with

  • Maledict, one of the Scarlet Scarves leader. He was pretty upset being intruded upon, but he would meet his end at Wulfric Cisboren, who mutilated him through the practice of Blood Eagle.
  • Caleb, city guard of Miweck. He apparently finds Danens to be enemies of Lysandus, disgusted by their practices. Though he means well, he is a xenophobe.
  • Idelle Han, Slytoff Han's mother. She apparently falls for Multi-Level Marketing schemes, but she is a great cook.
  • Dahb Han, Slytoff's father. He is a very sarcastic yet wholesome man, but is critical of his son occasionally. Enjoys embarrassing his children.
  • Warder Payne, the Vice-Mage of Cemedri Magicus. He has grown more open to the Southern Stars, seeing their merit. He is not afraid to criticize even his superiors.
  • Arch-Mage Imin Aldir, a High Elf with a great understanding of the celestial. He is arrogant, but ultimately, he realizes his failure in not being patient with Qenlynn Millerstone has doomed Lysandus. He is helping the party out of guilt and concern for the land.
