Alexandroth Hapsburg

Admiral Alexandroth Hapsburg

Alexandroth Hapsburg, born in 2A 29, was a former adventurer and thrall of Morganine. By 2A 65, he owned the largest colonial trading company in the world, called the Capricorn Colonial Company.

History

Alexandroth Hapsburg was born into the wealthy Hapsburg dynasty, made entirely of half-elf nobles. The Hapsburgs were known for their trading in Lysandus. Specifically, however, Alexandroth's parents were learned mages, who fell under the scrutiny of unsanctioned magic by the Wallingwish provisional government. They were accused of witch craft by a Tallian paladin named Bartalome el Piadoso in 2A 41. Alexandroth and his parents were burned. However, the Raven Queen, Morganine, found favor in Alexandroth and saved his life.

As a Champion of Maclir

Alexandroth managed to usurp the pirate Dana Bonebreaker, becoming an even greater pirate and menace to the Wallingwish Islands than she could have dreamed.
About a decade later, Alexandroth found himself in a prison ship captured by a privateer named George Wallington. They were captured by a pirate named Dana Cortez, who manipulated Alexandroth and his fellow adventurers to find the Treasure of Ages. However, with the wisdom of Morganine, Alexandroth slowly tried to usurp the pirate captain. Evidently in the adventure, they would face monsters and encountered a colony of Mind Flayers, hoping to take over the region to establish dominance in Talamh. Alexandroth and the adventurers rushed to the Island of Ages, delving deep into the dungeons of it.   Deeper into the earth, they would get into Davy Jones' locker. Alexandroth encountered Bartalome el Piadoso, and with the combined efforts of his magic and a new, young ally named Tursi, he got vengeance on the paladin and slew him mercilessly. The party encountered the god Maclir to help him exterminate the Mind Flayers and capture Dana, whom he felt perverted the seas. They defeated the Mind Flayers, including their Elder Brain, and were allowed to drink the Fountain of Youth. Thus, Alexandroth's age was extended by 500 years. Alexandroth and company then turned over Captain Dana to Maclir. However, an argument came across the three gods Calypso, Maclir, and Morganine, as the soul of Dana was argued about. The party decided to give Dana's soul to Morganine, to free Alexandroth of his pact with Morganine. Thus, Alexandroth was freed, and took Dana's ship, Capricorn II, for himself.

Rise to Political Power

As the Champions of Maclir parted ways, Alexandroth kept Ithacus and Tursi, fellow elves, with him. He started to use his money to also fund a private military. However, an argument spilled out with Ithacus, and he parted. Alexandroth mentored young Tursi for a while, but she would travel to Gaelitia to explore the natural world her ancestors knew. Becoming alone, he realized his revenge and control of a pirate ship wasn't enough for his aspirations. Alexandroth desired power. Thus, wanting to oppose New Wallingwish's ban on magic, in 2A 60 he started to enslave orcs and goblins to grow his military fleet.   Now as Captain Alexandroth, he led his forces in 2A 61 to start pillaging the Brookings Strait in New Wallingwish. He forcibly took over multiple merchant ships and starved out smaller cities until they submitted to his powers. The biggest city, Mebrook, was the first to fall. New Wallingwish proved to weak to fight his forces, leading in 2A 74 to the Treaty of Keton. New Wallingwish acknowledged Alexandroth's conquered cities under control of his newly-founded Capricorn Colonial Company. Alexandroth would be deemed Admiral and went off to control his mighty new trading company.

As Admiral of the Capricorn Colonial Company

Over the years, the Capricorn Colonial Company began to expand it's influence back into mainland Lysandus. The government there willingly traded with Alexandroth, him being recognized as a powerful Hapsburg himself. Eventually, Alexandroth also started to trade with the Kingdom of Tallia, connecting them back to Carallinian spices they lost after the Wallingwish Rebellion of 47. Alexandroth played his cards carefully, fighting piracy in the Wallingwish Islands with his own ships of goblins and orcs and paying them minimally instead of using human labor. He also utilized his growing magical knowledge in the mix. Because the seas were well patrolled, Lysandus and Tallia started to trade further with the Capricorn Company for several more decades.   Eventually, by 2A 161, the Empire of Tallia asked Alexandroth if he expressed interest in their own colonial ventures in Great Antillia. Alexandroth surveyed Antillia, knowing it was fertile and barely inhabited by advanced civilizations. He turned to the King Esteban of Tallia and asked for more advanced fire power. Alexandroth would be introduced to rifles and pistols, which exceeded the technology of Lysandus and Wallingwish. Alexandroth agreed, and began to establish small colonial towns in Great Antillia, owned by the Capricorn Colonial Company.
