Blood Hunt (blud huhnt)
The Blood Hunt is a Harvest Moon ritual conducted by the Lycanthropes of the Wolfweald in County Qeador, Falcrest.
History
In the wake of the Wolfweald War of 1247, the Sjeki Tribe was destroyed by the Crown Army of Falcrest. That autumn, tax collectors from Tamorcel discovered that the Falcresti settlers around the edge of the Wolfweald had been slaughtered. Men, women, and children were torn asunder, the only survivor a young girl named Laureen Breuer, the daughter of a brewmaster living on a large wheat farm on the forest's northwestern edge.
Rendered mute by the carnage she had witnessed, it took healers from Ubressa to coax the memories from Laureen's mind: beastial creatures, shaped like men but larger than even the tallest Falcresti knight and stronger than a dozen men, brought fang and claw in the middle of the night, ripping and tearing until none were left, then moved on to the next farm. The images presented by her mind to the priests revealed the massacre to be identical to the carnage witnessed around the forest throughout the county, suggesting a coordinated, full-scale attack on the Falcresti.
Despite their best efforts, the trackers sent in by the Crown were unable to locate either scent or trail, and the beast-men vanished into the forest and the mythology of the region. For months, the County quieted and life returned to normal, until the next Harvest Moon, when the blood hunt began anew, and just over three dozen were killed, once again with no trail or scent to track.
Participants
Every year on the Harvest Moon, the lycanthropes (primarily the werewolves) of the Wolfweald band together in packs and leave the forest to attack the farms and small settlements along its edges. No settler is considered safe, with the lycanthropes leaving bloodbaths in their wake.
