Suris Character in Children of Fate World | World Anvil

Suris

A trickster deity of fluid and often indeterminate gender, Suris is the youngest of the members of the Divine Family and as such is often treated with indulgence by their parents and siblings.   Suris is closely associated with trickery, deceit, wit, and creativity, and most of the myths surrounding them depict stories in which Suris outfoxes various enemies, notably Zargedge, Prince of Hell, their greatest nemesis.   Suris is also associated with rainbows, and when depicted visually is usually shown with skin or clothing displaying a dazzling patchwork of colors.   Suris is also generally credited as the creator of the humanoid races, and various myths recount how and why Suris created each of the different races. Certain sects dispute these stories, and many racial cults believe that Suris merely claimed work done by others, such as Niraila, Elene, or Portura, or various fey, elementals, or even fiends. Some races believe that they were created special by a different deity, and all others were created by Suris. (A notable example includes the Cult of Zargedge, who believe that Zargedge created humanity, and Suris stole them from him, and then tried to mimic Zargedge's creative genius by creating the various other races.)

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Suris is differentiated from the rest of the Divine Family by an arched line or lines.   The quality and number of lines and the orientation of the arc varies depending on the sect, however the most common is three lines in a pronounced upward arc, like a rainbow.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Suris introduces activity and chaos into a world that would otherwise too easily turn to stagnancy and rigidity. They prevent complacency in the gods through their trickery. They also fight against tyranny and oppression.

Mental characteristics

Gender Identity

Suris has the power to change form, and they can take on a wide variety of genders and gender expressions. They may appear as a man, woman, both, neither or something else and use pretty much every pronoun imaginable (and probably a few that haven't been invented yet). Suris subverts the entire idea of a gender binary or even a rigid gendered system in the same way they subvert all systems.

Sexuality

Suris is not generally seen as a sexually active deity, and in fact some sects consider them either totally chaste or asexual.
