Children of Fate World

Ten years ago, the Great War came to an end - the war that encompassed two-thirds of world's countries and wiped out some five million people, more than ever heard of in a span of just seven years. Although tensions remain high, the tenuous peace has now held for a decade. For some, this feels like potential long-term peace; for others, this is merely waiting for the other shoe to drop.   The children of the post-war generation are starting to enter their teenage years, and the generation that went to war are starting to become parents. Magical inventions originally developed in wartime are starting to become more common tools for communication and hunting. It is a changing world, and not everyone is happy about that.   This year, the tenth anniversary of the Tyrnal Accords, has been plagued by strange weather patterns. Summer was cut short by sudden and abrupt frosts which came unexpectedly early, making for meager harvests, but is now well past winter’s usual onset and snow has yet to fall. Farmers look at their stores, and start to worry.   Those races with lifespans long enough to remember the terror of the Hard Winters of the 14th century have cause to be concerned. A dozen years of harsh storms and poor harvests created a famine which killed a quarter of the world populace and made them susceptible to a plague which could have wiped out the world if not swiftly quarantined.   Desolation looms on the horizon. The gods seem too distant to be of any help. Some turn to more approachable sources of power in desperation.   New heroes must rise up - and a few chosen of the gods may make all the difference.
