Lindral Forest

The Lindral Forest is the home of the Federation of Forested Kingdoms. These kingdoms are the rulers of different parts of the forest, and there are many, with each controlling some land. There are six major kingdoms, as well as a number of minor kingdoms, with only about 15 of those having any real political, military, or economical strength. There were more, but those that were lost were largely destroyed during the Nekrutan Crisis or the creation of the Deadlands. While some say that Chenravo needlessly condemned many in those kingdoms to death with the creation of the Deadlands, others point out that the kingdoms affected were already overrun with the Nekrutan Worm, and would have collapsed before long, leaving those same citizens without support during a god-induced crisis. Each of the Kingdoms in the Federation has its own alliances with other federated parties, though there are deep animosities between some nations as well.    The six major kingdoms are Grethor, Sterine, Sanpholi, Trevlisto, Concabor, Tealimtor, and Relenvale. Each of these nations provide something vital to the Federation as a whole, be it military prowess, economic might, political connections, or incredible thinkers. These are also the nations that reap the best rewards from the Federation in terms of commerce, extra-federal alliances, and recognition.   Regardless of the political turmoil of the Federation, the forest has lost terretory to two major catastrophes: the wibovites and the Nekrutan Crisis. While the Deadlands were formerly part of both the Great Jungle of Gerule and the Lindral Forest, the latter lost much more to the sunken pit of undeath than the former. Before that, when the Time-Frozen Wastes were created, it was done entirely within the forest. The Wastes, which are perfectly circular, measure about 675 miles across. Several kingdoms had to be evacuated due to the crisis, and many of them were simply subsumed by other kingdoms. This region, more than any other, has had to pay the price when the gods' experiments go awry. This has caused many within the forest to lose faith in the gods. It has become one of the most secular places on Chenravo, having seen what a god's mistake looks like, and the price it extracts in blood.    Despite this, and their history with disaster, they have had something of a reprieve in recent years, and many hope that it will continue far into the future. The constant threats have made the people here hardier, and ready to take on whatever comes their way.    While other regions may have a variety of races living there, the Lindral Forest is in a completely different league. It is one of the most diverse places in Chenravo, second only, perhaps, to Harkinmont. Each nation may have a different distribution of races, but combined, this forest is the best place to experience the different races and their cultures in Chenravo.

Geography

Due to the creation of the Deadlands, Lindral Forest is no longer completely contiguous. It has two magor regions sectioned off by sections of steep cliffs leading down to the accursed land of undead. These two regions are called Tigloft, also known as the Northern Triangle, and Sofrom, or the Weeping Crossings.    Tigloft is far to the north, where it shares a border with Riflian and another, shorter border with the Great Jungle of Jerule. The north winds here are brutal, and this area has far more coniferous trees than the main body of the forest. Recently, winters here have been growing more harsh, as the frost from the Elven North continues pushing its way south. Sanpholi is the only major kingdom located in this area.    Sofrom also boasts a higher rate of coniferous trees than the main forest, but not by as much as Tigloft. It is known as the Weeping Crossings because water from the Mlilm Riverlands in the north and Scalebright Lake in the south both leak from the rocky cliffs leading down to the Deadlands. While it is a bit colder than most of the Lindral forest, it is also more temperate as the breeze off of the lake helps to normalize the area's temperature. This is also where one can find the major kingdom of Concabor.    The main body of the forest shares a long border with Scalebright Lake, and is within spitting distance of many of the False Life Isles. Of the six major kingdoms, four are found here: Tealimtor, Relenvale, Grethor, and Sterine.

Ecosystem

The Lindral Forest functions as a largely typical forest, with trees and such. While each tree in the Great Jungle of Jerule might be its own ecosystem, Lindral Forest is not nearly as densly packed with life or as complex. Nevertheless, it is a thriving system, even if it is occasionally at odds with the nations that call it home.

Localized Phenomena

While they can appear anywhere, naturally occurring portals to the Fae realm of Calcemax appear in the Lindral Forest more than anywhere else. These portals are much like the Fae themselves, mercurial, and with a strange sense of humor. These portals do not last forever, and the longest one on record went for about a tenday and a half. These portals are not exactly stable, and anything that is harmful to fae magic will likely cause them to close suddenly, regardless of whether or not someone was using them at the time.    These portals often appear where natural doorways are formed, such as in the space between two trees that rub against one another, or in puddles that show a sky different from the one overhead.

Natural Resources

Just like its people, Lindral Forrest boasts a wide variety of resources in different kingdoms. Elcaremo, a minor kingdom, has rich mineral deposits, as well as an intricate cavern system. Other countries have different resources, which many have leveraged to their benefit in their economies.

Tourism

People with the means and motivation to travel often find that travelling the forest provides a temperate environment where one can enjoy all manner of different cultures, foods, and entertainment. While some of the kingdoms are more autocratic, and therefore avoided by pleasure-seeking tourists, there is still a wide variety of kingdoms that can be explored and enjoyed by travellers of any kind.
