Scalebright Lake
This inland sea is the largest collection of freshwater anywhere in Chenravo. It is fed by two major rivers: the Batreene and the Mlilm, and drained by a third: the Lonfar. While in some places it can get very deep, most of Scalebright is only 10-30 feet deep. It is dotted with a few islands known as the False Life Isles. This lake is the primary source of water for many of the places that need it imported, including the Absayris Desert and the adjascent Obsidian Strip. Some of its waters also seep through the thin cliffside and fall down into the Deadlands.
Scalebright is also culturally important to many of the places that have its shores. From fishing to arccess to water to rituals, many of the surrounding people and nations have close ties to this lake. The waves of the inland sea are said by some to carry visions of the futures, and by others the lost dreams of those long past. Whether these are true visions or daydreams seem to up to some debate, though the consesus leans towards the latter. Nevertheless, the lake is frequently suggested to have mystical properties for those who need them most. Many shamans of the Marsh of Many Scales warn that attempting to misappropriate these energies will lead only to one's early demise.
Many different races live on the coasts and islands of Scalebright, but only one actually lives within its waters: the locathah. These fishy individuals are one of the reasons the lake got its name. They have a tendancy to stick to the deepest parts of the sea, inless they have duties or errands that take them to shallower locales. The tritons once considered attempting to annex Scalebright as part of their birthright of the seas, but it failed as the Locathah refused to cede their soveriegnty to the saltwater followers of Shaold.
Geography
The lake's northern shore is is nearly completely that of the Marsh of Many Scales. Given the nature of the marsh, it can sometimes be difficult to determine where the lake ends and the wetlands begin. It also shares a long stretch of its border with the Lindral Forest, broken only once by the cliffs of the Deadlands. The forest shores often have small beaches and marinas full of fishing boats. Fishers who accidentally land a locathah should consider another line of work. If they do, their boat is often targeted by the fishfolk for raids. They also herd their aquatic bretheren away from these marked boats, making it difficult for them to catch anything.
Where Scalebright meets the Deadlands, however, there is always activity. Genasi frequent this area and use their elemental gifts to ensure that the narrow point is well reinforced and protected. It is dangerous work, and a few genasi have fallen to their deaths far below in the land of the undead. Despie this, they work hard to prevent the dam from breaking, as the flooding could cause a security breach, allowing undeath to spread.
On the border of the southern riverlands, those of the Lonfar River, the centaurs sometimes gather fo a tradition in which their young compete in a tradition to skip a rock the furthest from a full gallop. Everytime their travels find them at the north end of the Lonfar River, they complete this ritual. Their success at this ritual determines the order in which they will go through many of the centaur's maturity ruituals, which can end up affecting much of the rest of their lives. As a result, this rite of passage is considered one of the most important in centaur culture.
The Obsidian Strup shares a bit of the shore as well, though it is very rocky, and some areas have short cliffs above the water. Given the hotspots and open lava the Strip is known for, however, makes it far easier for them to sterilize their water after collecting it. Settlements on the coast have also developed a filtration system that helps remove small fragments of stone and displeasing tastes from the water. Their system worked so well, that the dwarves started using it to make more water deep underground available for use.
Climate
Scalebright helps keep the summers from getting too warm, whil also ensuring that the winters in surrounding areas are a bit more mild. Unfortunately, it also serves as an area that can make storms more powerful. Many people, however, are more than happy with the tradeoff.
Fauna & Flora
Algae accounts for most of the plant matter present in the lake, though there are a few varieties of seaweed as well.
Fish, on the other hand, are much more vaired. There are trout, sturgeon, and golden shiners just to name a few. In adiition to the fish, there is also a breed of freshwater dolphin that roams these waters, sometimes travelling partway down the Lonfar, but never all the way to the sea. They seem to be a bit of a nuisance to the Locathah, but not big enough to hunt them down.
Natural Resources
The lake itself is a huge source of freshwater, and is used frequently with the warpstones to help out deserts and drought stricken regions. Due to the availability of the water, many organizations have established themselves as water merchants. They all charge higher prices for water in places where water is more difficult to obtain. Even the Warpstone Operators Guild occasionally engage in the practice, though infrequently.
Tourism
Some people, particularly citizends of the Federation of Forested Kingdoms, go the the Forest shore beaches. These beaches are well maintained by the towns and nations that control them, and the punishments for causing damage to them through littering or other means is considered a hefty offense.
In order to have more funding for patrols around the Deadlands, the Genasi have set up observation platforms where people can safely watch them work on the sectin of the lkae bordering the Deadlands. While there is a small fee attached to going to the platform, much of their funding comes from the donations viewers are often inclined to give.
