The Obsidian Strip
Before the Kervtrat, Krazzentar lay beneath the Strip, the infernal energies often causing excess volcanic activity. This caused the strip to grow further and further out into the sea. While the strip grew, trouble brewed elsewhere. In 2009, in the 1000th anniversary of Xalfar's descent, a dwarven clan leader sold the souls of all his clan members in exchange for power. This clan became the tieflings, and they settled here after they were expelled from the Clandom.
Since then, they have built a thriving nation, welcoming all who have been maligned by the devils, and making the Obsidian Strip into a paradise of luxury despite their lack of hospitible climate. With their roots as lawyers, they have been able to secure deals and build an economy on a mountain of paperwork. Of course it helps that, with a few infernal connections, someone in Cinemire can make their contracts unbreakable.
While the tieflings are the undisputed rulers of The Obsidian Strip, other people do call the area home. Fire Genasi are drawn to the expression of fire and flame in this area. As the relations between the Tieflings and Dwarves have improved, some dwarves have also been moving into the area to take advantage of the rich minerals. There are also some goblins who come here for geological surveys or other studies. There are also many types of people who come here just to enjoy and sample the luxuries of the cities.
Geography
This volcanic desert is rife with danger. The steep mountains and lava flows make navigating the terrain difficult, to say nothing of areas where a thin, brittle layer of rock is all that seperates a person from a pit of bubbling magma. The Strip has grown in a southwestern direction off of the main body of Chenravo.
The volcanic rock has been aggresively attacked by the sea, creating black sand beaches along much of the coast. While beautiful, it should be noted that some of these beaches have obsidian sand, which can quickly cause massive amounts of blood loss as the volcanic glass sand shreds flesh into sausage.
There are also large lakes of lava, such as the one that is directly next to Cinemire. Given their natural resistance to fire, tieflings have less to fear from the molten rock, ubt even they will suffer from the heat with little exposure. Since working to make ammends with the Clandom, however, it has proven to be a valuable commodity for them for a variety of functions.
Fauna & Flora
The extreme conditions surrounding the Obsidian Strip make it difficult for plants to grow. While some have made deals with devils for plants that would grow in the unhospitable environment. While these hardy plants managed to thrive in the volcanic wastes, the infernal energies that abound in the region had unexpected effects on the vegetation. The sturdy grasses gained new drug-like properties when smoked. In particular, they make people more suggestible and open to new ideas.
The berry bushes and fruiting trees became infused with different emotions. When eaten, they release their contained emotions within the consumer. While these were basic, like joy, anger, or sorrow, with crossbreeding and cultivation, gardeners were able to create more complex feelings. The ability to go on a vacation or stay in Cinemire and keep in good spirits through these foods has been one of the reasons The Strip has been one of the biggest draws for tourism.
Many flowers that were introduced failed to have outstading colors, they do have intoxicating effects. They mostly have red, black, and brown coloring, not standing out much from the volcanic rock of the strip. However, these flowers can induce states such as drunkenness or extreme relaxation when smelled. These effects are further empowered by various teas made from them, which may be accented by fruit juices.
Natural Resources
The volcanic movements of the area constantly create new materials, minerals, and metals to be mined by the Tieflings. While the Clandom is blessed by Halfar, the world's deep churning bowels keep the tieflings similarly stocked. However, some theologians and scholars say that Halfar was ashamed at the Clandom's treatment of the Tieflings, since they had lost their souls through no fault of their own. They also assert that because of this grief and shame, that he continues to look after the Tieflings to this day.
Even after the Kervtrat, infernal energy gathers along the strip, likely due to its connection with the birth of the Tieflings. While it is generated normally by the loss of opportunity, it seems that when that energy is released, if no one claims it, that it slowly drains towards the Obsidian Strip. This energy has interesting and unexpected effects on the people, places, and things on the Strip.
Tourism
The Obsidian Strip, and Cinemire in particular, are considered some of the most luxurious places on Chenravo. Because of this, they have a strong tourism economy. The ocean being on all sides of the Strip helps to keep temperatures mild, despite the volcanic activity. From the (safe) black sand beaches, to the amount of wealth moving through the nation, to the number of ammenities secured by the Tieflings, the Obsidian Strip has a lot going for it in terms of tourist draws.
Some of the more adventurous are drawn more to the rugged and exposed mountains and volcanoes. Dwarves in particular go to volcanoes and use special tools to create their own rocks. Setting up these expeditions and assisting with them, was one of the major steps in repairing the relationship between the Dwarves and Tieflings.
While Cinemire is the capital of the Strip, it does not have a strong tourism industry. Instead, it is far more focused on the job of governing. All of the nobles, who have duties in ruling the Strip in one way or another, have permanent residences in Cinemire.
