Ebtarrai
Ebtarrai are Liabdais who live deep in the Unending Dun, and unlike their Toaccai cousins they did not grow hearts. Ebtarrai are the ones who were the favourites of Abdemn, and who suffered when the Toaccai grew jealous of the Ebtarrais by Abdemn, so they captured Abdemn's wife and forced Abdemn to take his own life to free her. Abdemn complied and this caused a war between the Toaccai and Ebtarrai. The war has since ended, and the Aliallage Mountains separate the two races.
Ebtarrai reject other civilisations and cultural ways of life, and do not participate in global trade. They constitute the order of the Widow's Brethren and worship the frozen bodies of Abdemn and his wife Emenya, who are kept in a tower carved from ice called Emenahxi which is so tall that its top cannot be observed, and constantly linger on the past. This tower has carvings of the aforementioned events on the walls, for the Ebtarrai never want to forget the betrayal and love their ancestors experienced. They believe that Abdemn still watches over them, and the immortalised embrace of Abdemn and his wife represents the undying will and strength of the Ebtarrai people. They are said to live in kingdoms made of magical ice, but no reliable accounts have come from Liallypha in many ages, for they do not allow strangers across their borders. They look down on their Toaccai neighbours, seeing them as untrustworthy and disrespectful.
