Unending Dun

The Unending Dun is a phenomena that covers a large portion of Ebdypha. Its source is the piece of the Astrium that Yihyaphem stole when he was betrayed by Heocalan and exiled from the Monumidium.   The Dun itself wavers between its inner and outer limits. The increase in area is known as the cresdun and takes several months, and the decrease in area is called the emardun and also takes several months. The area within the inner limit experiences the Dun ceaselessly, whereas the outer limit experiences the Dun only at the peak of the cresdun, which reaches Dun's Edge every fifty five years.   The Dun has several unique features
  • The air is thick with darkness, limiting visibility to anywhere between 50 and 200m (165 to 655 feet)
  • The sun's light and warmth do not pierce the Dun; as such, there is no day or night
  • The effects of wind or any air motion are severely lessened, at most feeling like a very light breeze
  • Sound is muffled and deadened, much as with a dense fog
  • Colour is reduced in its intensity; most colours are reduced to shades of bluish-grey
  • Fire will either not ignite or quickly smoulder
  • Similarly, heat does not emanate from fire, and the sensations of heat and cold feel neutral
  • Fatigue escalates, especially in those outdoors and those who have a strong heart
  • Dark motes are visible at times, believed to be tiny harmless fragments of Astral energy, visible only when very near to the eye
People who live within the seasonal Dun have come up with several ways to live:
  • Alternative farming methods are emplyed, such as preferring fungi and livestock over regular crops.
  • Long-lasting resources are stockpiled and advanced preservatives are used often.
  • Light sources that don't use ignition are imported and used by professions like artisans and scribes.
  • Community strength is paramount, and people look out for their neighbours and loved ones.
  • Construction is generally halted during the Dun.
  • Babies born within the Dun are often taken beyond for a few years, and expectant mothers usually give birth in nearby countries that don't experience the Dun.
