The Ceremony of the Lady of The Lake

The Ceremony of the Lady of the Lake is a tradition that has been observed in the lands of The Battanian Confederacy since time immemorial, and many lore-singers claim that the Battanians have been making the trek to Loch Munremair since the early days of the First Age. It is well known across the continent of Calradia that "the great loch" is a holy place for the Battanians, and is rumoured to be a particularly holy place for the worship of Deities of the Feywilds such as Eostre, Glorum, and Cynthia. It is also known that the minor Fey Ladies of Saorah and Gyeowrug are associated with this time of year, as this is when the one begins to wane, and the other begins to wax.    Every year, on the night of the Summer Solstice, the waters of the loch glow with a luminescent blue-green light that glitters so bright that it lights up the woodlands surrounding the lake in a shimmering water-like light. Those who attend hold themselves to strict secrecy on what exactly occurs during and after the ceremony, and many believe that it is a magically enforced secrecy, as even under torture or during drunkenness they will never tell. This doesn't stop rumors though, and some claim to have watched from afar, and seen spirits rise from the water and revel ecstatically in the woods alongside mortals, mortal-creature hybrids, glowing spectral ghosts of those long dead, and even creatures of the forest.    What is known, is that making the pilgrimage to the lake is a dangerous journey, and those who make it are not of the faint of heart. It is considered a great honor in Battanian society to be known as a "pilgrim" as this means that you have journeyed to the loch for the ceremony and returned alive.
