Gyeowrug

The Lady of Winter

Gyeowrug is the Lady of the Winter, and is the twin of Saorah, the Lady of Summer. Together, old druidic tales of The Battanian Confederacy claim that they were created to help their father Eladrin maintain some degree of predictability. Their Father was constantly changing so much, that many of the creations of the Fey Court would simply die as they could not adapt to the constant changes. As such, the Ladies of Summer and Winter were created, to root Eladrin to recognizable and relatively stable conceptions of "seasons". Of course ideas of "summer" and "winter" are significantly different across the continent of Calradia, but having a steady cycle of Cold to hot, wet to dry, and dark to bright, helps all the mortal creatures structure their lives.   Of course though, the two seasons often compete for prevalence, and it is this competitive waxing and waning that is blamed for the seasons. Gyeowrug herself draws power and gains joy from long cold winter nights, and those creatures that dwell in the winter snows. She is most prominent in the central to Nouth of the continent, where she spends her time tending to both deer and Polar Bears alike. It is said that the furs of Northern creatures were actually gifts to the beasts by Gyeowrug herself. As such, many Northern trappers and huntsmen worship Gyeowrug, and pray to her from protection from the cold, and give offerings in exchange for collecting the furs of her subjects.    Every year, the two sisters of Summer and Winter compete to see which will hold sway the longest in the center of the continent in temperate zones, causing sometimes longer winters or summers. However, not even the eldest druids actually know how this competition takes place, and most speculate some sort of competition occurs in the The Feywild to decide each year.
