GeoCal Introduction

Overview

The Geographica Calmarendia deals with the purely physical aspects of the world: its place in the cosmos, its geography, the lines people have drawn upon the world, the places where they have settled, the things they have built there and the names they have given to all these things.

As such, the Geographica Calmarendia wanders a little outside the realm of pure geography and into astronomy and cosmology by including information about Calmarendi as a celestial object as well as several other celestial entities which are of relevance to our narratives, such as the Galaxia Linda (NGC 0) and stuff that it contains, including Earth. However, to delve any deeper into the geography of the cradle of humanity, you will need to refer to the separate Reader’s Guide to Earth.

Contents

The Geographica Calmarendia is divided into two main components:

  1. the Gazetteer Calmarendi: A-Z, which is a complete listing of all Calmarendi’s known physical and geopolitical entities from the very largest structure of which Calmarendi is a part — the Laniakea Supercluster — down to individual streets and houses on its surface, such as Andrea’s home on Prague Street. Not every house on every street, of course, just those that are of some relevance to our narratives and the lives of our characters.
  2. the Classified Gazetteer Calmarendi, which breaks down the gazetteer into listings of various entity types (one for settlements, one for natural features and so on) as well a definitive geopolitical structure diagram.

Celestial Matters

Although the Geographica Calmarendia makes mention of several celestial entities and various physical properties thereof, it does not, on the whole, concern itself with how those data came to be known.
