Personal history
William was an orphan, left on the steps of a Harmony Sanctuary when he was a baby. He was raised by a Priest. This upbringing was what led him to becoming a member of the Vatican and a big part of why he took Albion Marrable in.
He'd prayed that Albion's family would come back for him but they never did. William knew Albion wanted more than to become a Priest but was secertly pleased when he did. He didn't tell Albion the complete truth about what the Vatican did becaue he didn't want the young man exposed to the darker side of life.
But he didn't have a choice once Albion Marrable was turned into a Vampyre. William took Albion to Eternal Island to consult the Pope of Vatican. The Vatican's decision to allow Albion to live and hunt Gloombringers both pleased him and unsettled him.
William made sure that the incoming Bishop knew about Albion Marrable. He was able to ensure this because it was known that he was dying even though they didn't know what he was dying of.
