The Omphalos

There are many omphalos (plural) that dot the world of Cabochon . Each crystal is not openly evident and requires a spell to access. Four of these massive gems are known to tether the Elemental Planes to Cabochon. These four omphalos bare the shape of a perfect solid and require a host to lay dormant inside them to work properly. There is said a fifth may exist somewhere undiscovered. Speculation and recent study indicates these massive gems may control or focus elemental power on Cabochon and that the destruction of these objects proves devastating to the omphalos occupant and their kin. Shards of these mighty gems are scattered across Cabochon and are said to channel the power of their larger counterpart. Exceedingly rare, these shards are used by cults and archeologists as compasses to the omphalos they originated from.

Architecture

Each Omphalos takes the form of an immense perfect solid. While heavily damaged by time and multiple incursions, each shard from an omphalos breaks off in the exact shape of its parent gem.
