Half-elf
Lovingly referred to as 'Mules' like other half-breed races, half-elves have been expected to pick up much of the slack left by the Elven Empire. Half-elves present as a true composite of their two parent species. Not quite as tall or ethereal as elves and not nearly as short-lived as humans. Unlike other hybrid races, half-elves almost exclusively refer to the progeny of elf and human mating; elven blood often accents but doesn't quite destroy the secondary characteristics seen of descendant species (i,e. Sea Elves, Wood elves, etc.)
Due to the dominant nature of elven blood, most half-elves have not developed a fully individual culture. Most half-elves that cannot easily assimilate into one of the cultures of their parents seek out companionship with human enclaves.
Unlike their parent elves, Half-elves have not suffered the same sudden infertility. That said, nearly all half-breeds are known for being less fertile than most species. Scholars note a recorded period in time where all known half-elves were fully sterile. This stifled fertility has led to promiscuity almost matched by their progenitor species. More radical factions of pureblooded elves blame half-elves for their curse and blame infernal intervention for this swap in sterility.
Civilization and Culture
History
Unlike much of elven progeny, half-elves are seen very positively by other races within Cabochon. This connection has thrust half-elves into the forefront of royalty. Most courts around the world have at least one ambassador or emissary that is half-elf. Through their hybrid nature, half-elves tend to be quite sociable yet reverent when necessary. Humans often artificially narrow their ears to appear elven and it has become quite the fad since the decline of the Elven Empire.
